Re: The Amazing Spider Man
What can I say, absolutely amazing! In leicester square we were treated to a great trailer that made use of the 3D format and also a lengthy showing of some truly riveting footage in 2D. I had to miss the first half of the liverpool vs tottenham match and it was honestly one of the better decisions I have made! Can't wait! Also, there was free Long-sleeved t-shirts! Anddddd, wheras Andrew Garfield was in new york, and Emma Stone in Rio, we got to see Rhys Ifans who plays lizard in the film

Re: The Amazing Spider Man
Just came back from the Sneak Peak in Leicester Sq, with a snazzy black Spiderman t-shirt to boot.
Queue was at least 100 deep when I arrived (even though I was there at 7.15). Customary stamp on the hand and bouncers on the door meant I found the right queue alright. It was jam-packed with the press cavalry having their aperitifs on the first floor while joe public nabbed any seat going. Before the lights went down, and before donning 3d glasses, there was a live satellite link-up to at least 8 or 9 other cities round the world, with a few stars from the film taking Q & A according to location. New York had Andrew Garfield, Rio had Emma Stone and we had Rhyf Ifans.
As for the film itself, we had two excerpts. The spanking new 3D trailer and a unfinished 2D montage of a few scenes.
First impressions - for all the glitz. I fear this a doomed project. What was the point of making this film? For all the variations of theme (new villain, insight into Peter Parker's parents etc), it just doesn't look "different" enough from Tobey Maguire's series for a reboot (unlike Batman). More worryingly, the release date is July - exactly when the far more anticipated Batman - Dark Knight Rises is released. More thoughts later.

Re: The Amazing Spider Man
Someone offered me a ticket but the late start for assumingly 5 minutes of footage put me off (I had to clean and do laundry etc)

Re: The Amazing Spider Man
Just got back from Leicester Square preview sneak peak. It was rammed. Pretty much started on time and we were treated to the new 3d trailer and an approx 10 minute clip in 2d with some unfinished CGI bits.
On the whole I have to say it was quite positive all the clips seen tonight and ticked a lot of the boxes but the jury is still out on the finished article. The director talked about the untold story being about Peter Parker's parents which is not really touched on before. I'm not sure about this as I always thought the pivotal point in Spiderman's birth was the death of Uncle Ben. We'll see how the film turns out but I am more positve about it. Spiderman's suit especially the eye lenses reminded me of the 70s tv show..... that's now telling you how old I am now.
The preview was simultaneously broadcast from LA with the director, Rio with Emma Stone, New York with Andrew Garfield and London with Rhys Ifans. All were very charming and Andrew Garfield seemed genuinely humbled with the role he is taking on and the burden it bestows. Especially with so many fan boys out there.
The best thing at the end was the long sleeved t shirts which was available in small, medium, large and extra large. Instead of the usual large only at these things. Not all fan boys are like comic book store man in the Simpsons. Thank you. I managed to snag a medium and will get to wear it for a change instead of giving it away.
Only lasted about 30 mins but definitely worth it tonight.

Re: The Amazing Spider Man
Trailer was good in 3D, but seemed wildly unfocussed and tried to meld the two big plots together, badly. If the film can't do this then we may be in trouble here. However, the 3D in the trailer gave nice feeling to the swinging, although that's about it. The sizzle reel had a few more snippets of Lizard than at Big Screen, and unfinished effects shots, but not much additions, and poor Rhys Ifans seemed a little hesitant in front of the crowd, especially with some dire questions.
Nice to see TV's Chris Hewitt again, and I stole a poster from the foyer.
