I too have a mini crush on him now!! Mind you, I get a mini crush on whoever the leading man is in any film - I'm worse than a teenager!!! I've always had a 'thing' for Irish men though!!!

Oh I agree about the photos. And it was a lovely film, great music, authentic horrible 60s clothes and well acted. Enjoyed it very much. Excellent turnout of FMUKers too, always good to see.

Chris O'Dowd can do no wrong in my opinion! He has that really likeable Irish charm and wit that makes you warm to him whatever he does and says. This definitely wouldn't have been the same without him. I loved the story and the music and the realism that was the portrayal of was-torn Vietnam. It was very convincing indeed. Certain scenes reminded me of MASH and that for someone who was not around when this was contemporary is as close as one can get for me.
Definitely a feel good film that delivers in spades. Being a true story it could have gone the other way and maybe had an alternative ending but that would not have had the desired effect.

This is an easy 7/10 for a film I'd have been unlikely to see if I was p*ying and may have even missed on TV. Glad to have seen it and can easily recommend.

Edinburgh this morning started at 10.20am. I'd weighed things up and decided that 10am start was unlikely as cinema only opens at 10. I only just made it. Was surprised to see the usual Virgin intro and Virgin short - 2:20 (which I am thouroughly sick of!) as this was a SFF screening. Methinks the cinema borrowed/held on to the copy from earlier in the week. Hey - better that than the download not turning up etc.

Great antidote to a dark, wet, dreich Sunday morning!

Doors didn't open at Westerhailes until 10am. Marjoreemarjora had a word with the manageress and complained about the tickets saying 10am as people had been queueing since 9.30am. She said it was SSF fault as she told them they don't open until 10am so the screening should have been 10.30am start - however she announced that since the cinema was almost full she would start it at 10.20am.

We all enjoyed the film. My friend and I had a laugh at the Tupperware party as I was a Tupperware party planner in these days!!! Still have some of the tupperware in my cupboards - so it did last just as we said it would when we were selling it. ;)

Loved the music and nice to see the real people at the end of the film. Good Sunday morning film. 7/10

A 10am start was unlikely, as Odeon Sunday morning screenings usually start at 10.30am, but if it's on your tickets, how can you know, and it's better to be safe than sorry so we would have been early and banging on the doors whilst standing in the cold. I would complain to SFF.

Manageress said SSF should have sent an update with change of time but obviously they didn't. Wasn't expecting it to open until 10am but worried about others being in queue and then us not get good seats so went for 9.45am to find a short queue had already formed.

Will complain to SSF but doubt I'll get a reply.

I really enjoyed this movie, Chris O'Dowd was reason why I woke up so early on a sunday morning and it was so worth it however I will have to complain about the location, Odeon Holloway opened their doors to the public a lil late :(

I thought it was a printing error and was meant to start at 10.30 or 11am but Covent Garden actually started on time! Started at 10.10 as they allowed a bit of extra time for latecomers to arrive.

Easy viewing. Light, fun, feel-good and with some nice tunes. Worth getting up early for. O'Dowd steals the show.

7/10

A suitably not too-demanding film for an early Sunday morning start at Odeon Covent Garden. Chris O'Dowd is funnier here than he was in Bridesmaids.

We saw Brave at Holloway and although it was a 10am start on the tickets, we were queuing outside from 9.30am and weren't let in until after 10am. Same thing happened again this time, except we didn't get there quite so early and my OH was less angry as he half expected the organisation to go wrong again. I'm going to send feedback to SFF and point this out - it's ridiculous putting 10am on tickets for Holloway given the cinema doesn't actually open until after then.

I would have taken the last minute tickets for Covent Garden, but on balance, I figured the screen at Holloway would be better. Hunch might have pa*d off, as I quite enjoyed the screen we were in and more importantly, I enjoyed the film. I didn't have high expectations, but I'm really glad now that I successfully juggled Argo and The Sapphires to see both.

Initially, it felt like a solid 3/5 but then picked up and I think I'd give it a 4/5 overall, because there were some very good moments. I thought Chris O'Dowd was great and had some cracking lines, for example:
I found the chicken joke hilarious. I don't think it would have worked had anyone other than O'Dowd delivered it. I also liked him reading out the letter, saying how he wasn't very good at life and glossing over his marriage.
I also liked the casting:
Dave and Gail made such an odd couple, but that's real life for you. Some of the soldiers were obviously quite good looking in your typical Hollywood way, but the civilians were a real mix of obvious and less obvious beauties.
My OH thought the war scenes seemed a little fake, but I was too busy enjoying the movie to pick up on that.
