At least with plays you can just not go back after the interval. That used to happen to me quite a lot in my youth when the prospect of another pint in the bar was more alluring than an underwhelming theatre production. Now I am older (but perhaps not wiser) I would probably be more likely to stick out a bad play than a bad film because I would feel sorry for the members of the cast if too many people walked out.tarantinoed wrote:I absolutely loved both Funny People and The Men Who Stare at Goats. I laughed my head off at both and think Funny People is something approaching genius. I would also leave the cinema if I couldn't stand the film but quietly. It is strange, however, that I also tend to do this more with plays than films.

Its the mobile phone brigade that get on my wick - why can't people turn them off, or at least not get them out every couple of minutes, with the distracting illuminations, just to check twitter twatter or whatever it's called just in case one of their non-entity friends has posted an inane comment!

Re: Latecomers to screenings.
Heard this story on the radio, then found someone had sent me a link about this.
http://www.digitaljournal.com/article/288207
The Food Standards Agency is urging cinemas to provide calorie information on their snacks and to cut down on portion sizes.
A large bag of sweet popcorn could have as much as 1,800 calories, while the same size bag of just salted popcorn does not fare much better at 1,779 calories.
Although the large bags are intended to be shared there are too many people who eat the large portion by themselves.
The Food Standards Agency's chief executive Tim Smith said, "There is a myth that popcorn is calorie-free, but that is not the case. It is a concern to us. Portion sizes are also a big issue, and there seems to be increasingly big packs on sale."
Popcorn isn't the only food of concern. Hot dogs contain about 650 calories, nachos with cheese could contain as much as 716 calories and a large Coca Cola has 328 calories, according to nutritionists.
FSA wants support from cinemas and other entertainment venues in tackling the obesity crisis, and that these venues need to step up and take responsibility for portion sizes.
Let's hope this stops latecomers from dallying at the food stands!

Good one! The portion sizes seems to get bigger and bigger....
If late, shouldn't even think of dallying!

LOL, yeah, I posted that on the Weight Watchers thread the other day.

I can't understand why people aren't deterred by the prices. Admittedly I have no idea what cinemas charge for hot dogs, popcorn, etc, but if they're anything like the cost of chocolate, c.f. high street prices, I wouldn't p*y that much for something even if I did like it. I was at the theatre yesterday and a tiny tub of ice cream was £2 - probably cheap by West End standards - but it's still ridiculous and I won't p*y it.

Yes £2 is cheap by West End standards. I pa*d £3 the other week when I went to see Hairspray . I only pa*d that becuase I was very hot and thirsty. At least with ice cream though, it is something that you can't really bring in with you.

Re: Latecomers to screenings.
Actually, when I went to the cinema as a student, I sometimes took a small tub of frozen mousse, as a cheap alternative to ice cream. But obviously that wouldn't work if you had a long journey to the cinema or for theatres, when you'd need to wait for the interval and anyway, I've no idea whether you can still b*y these little tubs.
