The Secret Life of Walter Mitty

Saw this last night at Cheshire oaks.
I went with the family and we all thoroughly enjoyed this film, much better than i expected, I really don't understand how people are critising this film so fun, but each to their own.

I really liked this, so I guess I'm on the more positive side but I can see why people found it a bit boring as it dawdled along in places - however I can forgive all that because I found it truly heart warming. I felt for Walter Mitty and was cheering him all the way.

[spoiler]I wondered how he had transitioned from being a fun, adventurous child/teen into a man who seemed to live a mundane lonely life, carefully recording all his expenditure but it made sense when he explained what happened with his dad.

All that responsibility he felt was represented by that grand piano, he felt his mother needed it and it was his responsibility to ensure she had it in his dad's absence. But she didn't need it, she was ok once it was sold but he had this exaggerated perceived expectation of how he needed to care for her and his sister - which stopped his sister 'growing up' and him living out his dreams. Not a criticism of him because he was just being caring but it made him this 'grey piece of paper' - oh I just liked most aspects of the film![/spoiler]

I am surprised only a few of us really liked it or were really touched by the film as I personally think it his the right tone in most places. Scenery was also a great plus! 8/10.

Not all the screenings. Just one on Tuesday and there is another showing straight after it in the same cinemas. And knowing the cinemas it will be the same screen. The film is about 114 minutes long and two showings at 16:30 and 18:30 so you do the maths.

This might be a victim of over-previewing, suffocating on its own word of mouth. I agree with the viewer who found the mix of fantasy and a supposedly realistic fantasy narrative off-putting. You keep expecting his road trip to be a dream.

The film is at its best when Stiller shows off his skateboarding skills. If someone is shown to have a secret inner life, it has to be represent suppressed rage; the best fantasy scene does exactly this (reference to beards). In the second half of the movie, there is too much inspirational music and not enough comedy.

After watching Kristen Wiig strumming a guitar to MAJOR TOM, I had a tremendous urge to listen to folk music. But that's just me.

Fighting over a toy is tedious.

The way I'd look at is "If you've got the time, then go see it" but if you are really pushed for time with Christmas less than 10 days away(next week) then don't worry too much!

film was not bad at all. it had some funny scenes etc. Me and partner enjoyed watching it :) its different.

I wasn't sure I wanted to see it in the first place Deb and now I'm even less sure! Hey ho....I have tickets for next week too and will no doubt brave the elements and go make up my own mind....
