I saw this in Screen 2 at Cameo, Edinburgh yesterday. Only 1 or 2 empty seats.

I rather enjoyed it as it did allow me to use my brain a bit. I thought Jeremy Renner was completely believable as Jem, not quite so sure of Ben Affleck as Doug, he was just too pretty for teh role, especially if he was supposed to be a pro hockey ex too.

The story was quite engaging and I believe that he wanted to change but perhaps a wee bit more of a lead up would have convined me more.

The supporting charachters could have done with more beefing out of their roles to fill the picture in more in my opinion, but a good solid film.

8/10

Headed home after watching The Town at Cineworld Shaftesbury Ave. Unfortunately my friend couldn't join me which is a shame cos I think she'd have really enjoyed this. I did.

A very smart film, well acted out (2 for 2 for recent Ben Afleck movies after Gone Baby Gone). In ways it reminded me of Heat. The heist, the shoot outs, the cat 8 mouse games with the cops.

Overall, a solid 8/10

My biggest gripe is reserved for Cineworld. Next time you build a cinema in a shopping centre/gaming arcade centre, how about investing in some some sound proofing. I'd rather hear the film I'm watching, not the rumbles from the sound system in the rest of the building. And secondly, turn the volume up a bit. The point of a cinema is a sound system with audio louder than the TV in my bedroom.

But that didn't spoil my entertainment. Another movie seen & a step closer to the elusive (and unrealistic) 100!!!

PS Did anyone else spot former boxer Chris Eubank making his way up to one of the screens as we were on the way out?

Managed to see this tonight in Edinburgh despite another cock-up on my part with tickets - ticket said Cineworld Enfield. I booked this before I knew about the SSF website problem. As no further Edinburgh tickets came up I decided to play "daft laddie" and go with the wrong ticket. They were good enough to let me in. I was lucky as the cinema was not full - there were plenty of spare seats. I'd definitely have surrendered my seat if I thought anyone would be turned away because I'd taken their seat.
I thought this film is well worth a watch, although I did struggle with a lot of the dialogue - the Boston accent was often hard to follow. A good story with plenty of action. I'd definitely give it 8/10. Now I need to find Gone Baby Gone.

Cineworld Unlimited is cheating! ;-)

:thanks:

wytewolf2k for the tickets for tonight's film. Shame you couldn't make it. The cinema was pretty much full in Glasgow. I don't normally go in for lots of car chases and shooting etc (can you tell I'm not a boy?), but perhaps because of some great editing and low camera angles, I actually quite enjoyed it.

I hadn't been to see anything for ages, but I'm going to MID tomorrow too, so perhaps I'm on a roll???

Hope it's good.

Saw this at Crawley, courtesy of a_person - and my first preview in TWO WHOLE MONTHS(!) so I'd almost have been glad to see anything. However, I did genuinely enjoy this and thought it was worth seeing. As others have said, a solid 8/10. I did think it was a little sentimental and I'm not normally one for violence and car chases, either, but they looked less implausible in this film than a few others I could name, and anything along the lines of Mystic River, Gone Baby Gone, etc, gets my vote.

Saw this at West India Quay tonight, very impressed by the film and still finding it hard to belive that Ben Afleck directed this, especially after seeing Gone Baby Gone. Did anyone else have trouble understanding the Boston drawl?

Saw this in a very full Cineworld Shaftesbury Avenue. Had a nice chat with ejwrank and sunny saver.

Very annoyed that people were rustling their food wrappers for most of the film on my left and behind on my right, it was like an orchestra!

The film was entertaining, a solid action thriller, very exciting and suspenseful. It even got the thumbs up from my OH, which is a first! o/ I really liked Ben Affleck and Rebecca Hall in this, I thought they both were really credible. John Hamm was good as the FBI agent, but Jeremy Renner just reminded me of the Hurt Locker. I was trying to think where I had seen Rebecca Hall recently, and it was in Please Give. She was very good in that too. 7/10

oh, at the end before the credits rolled, it stated that the film depicted Charlestown as a breeding ground for armed robberies and this was authentic, the film also was dedicated to all the good people in that town.

We saw this at Shaftesbury Avenue too but didn't spot Chris Eubank (though I thought I might have seen him a few weeks ago while walking in Mayfair). You're right don_datta about the poor sound -- I thought my hearing must be failing. But my biggest gripe was the noise in our row from a few people who were consuming the most enormous dustbins full of popcorn. They made so much noise and seemed oblivious that they were annoying everyone else. What is it with me that I attract all the noisy people who decide to head to the cinema or theatre?

I found the film predictable but good. Not great but certainly better than a lot of stuff I've seen this year. I didn't find Claire particularly believable as a bank manager (too young) and would she really have fallen for Doug? But it wasn't a bad way to spend a couple of hours but isn't the Cineworld on Shaftesbury Avenue a dreadful place.

I thought this was very good, but I definitely second the Heat comparison. But Heat is one of my all-time faves, so I can't complain about that. The accents were definitely rough at times and the rough sound at the cinema didn't help matters. It's definitely an impressive showing by Affleck. My big hang-up is the fact that no way does any crew pull so many jobs in such a short amount of time. Especially when they had so much heat on them. I also believe the FBI would've been all over them before that final job. Otherwise, it was really engaging and the lead character was really well-developed, perhaps at the expense off other characters but the success of the story definitely depends on the lead so it's understandable. I thought the film built the tension up really well.

Good stuff and highly reccommended. 8.5/10

I thought the noise was coming from your row! Gosh they were noisy eaters. Remind me next time not to sit so close to you :D
