Mahler

"My ideas cannot be classified. To understand them requires no other procedure than this: to go to the matter with the heart, to listen and comprehend with feeling. Intellectual tools are to be excluded. My works contain my whole existence and my whole view of life which, granted, is a view made of dream and reality, as it is with all artists."
Mahler, in a letter to Guido Adler

Shakespeare Happens: The Tragedy of Macbeth - 13-18 April

#322 Post by cliveas » Mon Apr 04, 2011 7:50 pm

Shakespeare Happens: The Tragedy of Macbeth
13 - 18 April 19:30 - 21:45
The Scoop at More London (situated between London Bridge and Tower Bridge on the south bank of the Thames.)
Admission: Free

River Productions brings to you William Shakespeare's "Macbeth" controlled by three childlike witches who treat the other characters as their toys to be manipulated, played with and ultimately cast aside. This production is set in a world that is not our own, but the three weird sisters plunge the audience into the witches' cauldron that is The Scoop at More London, from which the dark story of Macbeth bubbles. Using the template from last year's "Shakespeare Happens: A Marathon," this year's "Shakespeare Happens: The Tragedy of Macbeth" is high energy, interactive and colourful.

The show is inspired by the works of Frank Miller, Art Spiegelman and Ridley Scott. It aims to bring the look of a graphic novel to life on stage. Director Paul Christopher Mooney seeks to merge the appearance and energy of graphic novels with the text-driven interactive concept, "Shakespeare Happens." "Shakespeare Happens" is a concept created by professional actor and director Laura Catherine Kressly during her postgraduate training at the University of Exeter. "Shakespeare Happens" seeks to bring the works of William Shakespeare to people via the immediate, accessible form of outdoor street performance.

River Productions is a London-based historical fringe theatre company. Last year's "Shakespeare Happens: A Marathon" was their debut production, followed by "The Time Travelling Adventures of the Pirate Revlon Scarlet: The Search for Drake's Gold" at The Camden Fringe and "The House of Lost Souls" with Phantasmagoria Events at Charlton House. They also create corporate and children's entertainment. River Productions seeks inspiration for their repertoire from contemporary London, its two thousand years of history, and the river Thames, the lifeblood of the city. From this influence, River Productions aims to produce a diverse range of theatre, from children's theatre to re-envisioned classics to new writing, relevant to a wide demographic of contemporary audiences.

Comedy at Kings Place 7/4

We are incredibly excited to have the king of comedy songs, Mitch Benn, performing at Kings Place. You'll know him from his weekly performances on ‘The Now Show' and ‘Mitch Benn's Crimes Against Music' on Radio 4, and no doubt his frequent TV appearances on the likes of ‘The One Show' and ‘Bremner Bird and Fortune'.
Music and Comedy is the perfect mix for Hall 2 and our amazing acoustics will make sure it sounds as good as it's funny. Mitch shares the bill with Joel Dommett, our regular MC Ed Gamble and a newcomer's spot from impressionist Max Dowler

Mitch Benn
“Well crafted, well sung, his songs are just plain funny” The Guardian “Fresh, original and simply marvellous” Cue “Essential viewing” Time Out “Song after song of exquisitely crafted satire” The Scotsman Visit the biography section on the right had side of this page to find out more about Mitch Benn's extensive accolades!

Joel Dommett English Comedian of the Year finalist 2009, Joel is also Co presenter of the Paul Foot Radio Show on Resonance FM and BBCs Sun Seekers and had comedy roles on E4s SKINS and ITVs Teenage Kicks and is currently appearing in the sitcom POPATRON on BBC2 every Saturday "he reduces the sell out audience into bouts of uncontrollable laughter"

Public Reviews "we will definitely be seeing big things from him in the near future" Hairline "stories are told in such a compelling way with such energy the audience is totally sucked in" British Comedy Guide "a manically funny act" Three Weeks
