Travelling Light:
Just watched a play about the making of early motion pictures, which included the screening of the characters' attempts on backdrop screen and monitors. At the same time the play was being filmed and shown live across every continent. We could see the cameras and the output to the cinemas on the screen of the camera man. This was followed by a Q&A which included the director and writer discussing how plausible it was to make the play into a film.
Interesting!

Re: Free Theatre/Concert Tickets Discussion Thread
I really wanted to see this as I was looking at the cineworld listings to plan out all my movies with my cineworld unlimited and I noticed there are several plays and operas that are filmed live around the world. But because the plays are in London they're showing it several cineworlds around UK EXCEPT bloody Londoncliveas wrote:Travelling Light:

Yes, it was interesting up to a point, I liked the set, the costumes and the acting but after a while I didn't find the story all that involving anymore. Perhaps because there wasn't really much at stake? Not enough drama?cliveas wrote:Travelling Light:

I am glad I saw it in the theatre, though, as I was able to make my own choices as to which part of the stage/action to look at. The vision mixer who chose which bits to show on the screen and for how long obviously had a very different taste from mine (e.g. he would stay on a close-up of one character while there were other interesting things happening on stage which then didnt reach the screen).
Nice to see cliveas and ejwrank. Was anyone else there?
And was anyone close enough to the front to see whether the little boy really played the violin or whether he just moved the bow to a playback?
Re: Free Theatre/Concert Tickets Discussion Thread
Husband and I were very glad to see this in the theatre. It was a really interesting mix of theatre and film and the stage design was terrific. We both thought the first half was better than the second as we didn't feel very engaged with the Hollywood bit of the story but still glad to have the chance to see it. Thank you a_person for getting us the tickets.
Lovely to see kaybeelon and cliveas. We were a smaller group than you had at The Empire but FMUK were present and correct!

I saw this at the NT Live broadcast at the Richmond Curzon. We enjoyed it very much and were very happy that we were only 10mins from home when we got outside to find it snowing heavily.
MrG - there will probably be 'encore presentations' which you can catch.

I think Travelling Light is a really charming play. I went last night as was intrigued by the live filming. Been twice now. The first time I went I b*ght front row tickets and yes can confirm the violinist is actually playing.

I was there too. I enjoyed the play, especially due to the mix of film and theatre. I enjoyed the Q&A too.Kaybeelon wrote: Nice to see cliveas and ejwrank. Was anyone else there?
It's the second time that I go to one of these NT live things. It's a nice event, I think.
