Not heard of onhotels.com but McAfee is one of the better known internet security systems out there. Just because they are using that though, doesn't necessarily mean they are a reputable site, it's security software that anyone can b*y.

Slightly off topic but still holiday related. Does the site onhotels.com look OK? Just looking to book my Paris hotel and came across this site and the prices are about 25% cheaper than all the other sites I've tried, it appears to be too good to be true but could be genuine. I'm not brilliant at IT so wouldn't know; its also got McAfee secure which I've never heard of.

There doesnt seem to be enough customer feedback information about them to be fully trustworthy. But I havent found any serious negatives about them either. I did a whois domain search on them. They are London registered company trading as hotelsrus Ltd. They changed their domain from hotelrus to onhotels.

To be honest, they probably are ok but I rather be more at ease with a more reputed agent. Then again some smaller agents do their best to keep your custom...

As for payment security, they look eligble as the security padlock symbol appeared on my firefox browser which is a legally authenticated pass. Always ensure you see the yellow padlock on your browser in the bottom right corner when your on any website payment page (and on the browser frame itself, not within the wep page!) The fact you see Mcafee on their web page means nothing to you.

Watch out for hidden costs if the deal looks too good to be true. Such as added commision, or whatever, you never know.

How long are you going to London for and what do you like doing? I love the city! Have you done a day trip to Dublin they are good fun; if you wait a couple of months for Ryanairs summer flights you can get the 8am plane there and return on the 9pm flight I've been about 10 times and its so easy from Manchester.

sorry I haven't had time to come on here. Am only going for the day for the 1st time and already have night plans. Am going to see Our Private Life, main reason am going Colin Morgan! there is no time as of yet on how long the play is on for, so not sure if we can fit other night plans in too. I like a lot of things but stuff like museums I enjoy but the friend am with doesn't. I've been told the place we are staying is not that far from Buckingham Palace, but if you don't get the right time of the gaurd change is there really that much to see?

We want to kind of stay local as we are meeting another friend who arrives from the USA a few hours after we check into our hotel. So really what places are the best things to go and see near the Victoria area?

No i havn't done the Dublin day trip never really thought about a daytrip there but something i can look into. Have been looking at a Glasgow trip but there are no direct travel options so it would have to be done via car.

There are direct links to Glasgow from Manchester my friend went on the Virgin train this morning and her return trip is on Thursday but she has a 10 minute change at Preston on the way back for the total cost of £27

Am in Liverpool and can't find any direct I think the closest i found direct to me was Warrington. I could do the Manchester train if i make it an over night trip and get some shopping in aswell.

Sorry for some reason I assumed that you were in Manchester; the drive to Glasgows not bad but I do love public transport probably because I spend everyday driving on the M60 so its a novelty to me getting a train.

I'm heading off to Madeira on Monday (31st) for our annual holiday to shake off the OH's SAD syndrome but I'm a bit frustrated at missing the Fighter (showing the day we fly out) as we hardly get any in Dundee anymore.

Has anyone been to Madeira before to give me some tips / suggestions on what to see or do there (to make up for missing the film) ?

My husband and I had been to Funchal in Madeira several times but not in the past five years as we felt it had become too built up and lost its "old world" charm. Too many hotels now where the banana plantations used to be. Used to see the villages up in the hills with people on their donkeys carrying baskets of lemons, oranges etc.
The other downside was the "timeshare touts" who were everywhere last time we were there. We had always stayed in the Savoy hotel but found it too had changed into a timeshare resort which was a massive shame as it was a wonderful hotel.

On the upside though it is a lovely island with beautiful gardens. If you are staying in Funchal you can go into the gardens of the Presidents palace which is on the road down to the harbour. Entrance is free. There are lots of levada walks on different levels depending on how much you like walking.

Down at the harbour there are plenty of restaurants and cafes. The Beatles boat "The Vagrant" is moored there and has been changed into a bar restaurant and plays Beatles music all day.

Take a bus or a cable car up to Monte and take the Wicker Basket Run down the hill with two men on the back pushing you at top speed through the village streets. Great fun!!

Reids Hotel in Funchal is very oldie world and although not cheap it is THE place to be seen to go for afternoon tea. Was about £16 each last time we were there. Or just go for morning coffee and have a look round.

Camara de Lobos is a small fishing village reknowned for Winston Churchill staying there to paint. There are day trips round the east coast or west coast of the island by organised coaches which usually include lunch.

I've never been but it sounds lovely. My friend has been several times and always comes back with a fabulous leather handbag which she seems to pick up for next to nothing in the local markets. She has also mentioned Reids Hotel in Funchal - that sounds like a must!
