http://uk.movies.yahoo.com/the-most-con ... films.html

not sure I agree with all the fuss about the certification. Whilst its always disturbing to watch a child die, much less at the hands of another child, I remember watching all the worst kinds of movies when we were 12 (Driller Killer, Henry Portrait of A Serial Killer etc) and look at me, I turned out fine (lool). Its a film, you know? Surely kids know what to expect if they've read the books. If not they must have seen Battle Royale, its been on youtube for years. Man, we used to watch movies like that just for a teenage powertrip, to make us feel important to the world, despite being largely unable to even peel a potato at that age.

If anything its worse as an adult because you more fully understand the consequences of death and murder.

On a final note, I feel bad for the director having to take flak for this being a rip-off of Battle Royale, seeing as its the author of the book who BLATS pinched the idea JKR style. But at least she did a good job of her story, which is what it should be judged on.
fav 5 films of the year - Tenet, Bill n Ted 3, Invisible Man, JoJo Rabbit, ?

I've not read the books, I was going to but ran out of time. Went to see this last night and thought it was a gripping film, it really got me on the edge of me seat even though I knew the end was predictable.
You do have to wonder what goes through people's minds to create brutal stories like this involving children.

I've seen Battle Royale and must say this is much tamer than that and I enjoyed it rather than turning my head all the time.

It was nice to see Lenny Kravitz in it too I didn't know he was in it!

Heh. Without bringing the dreaded spectre of the B.R., I quite liked that this movie kind of explored the politics around the games rather than just the games themselves. I liked that, compared to the book (which is all Katniss's POV), we got to see a bit of the maneuvering around the games. Although, I will admit...still dying to know how the rest of the world fits into this... are we trading with the Panem bloc?

Preference of cinemas:- 1. Glasgow Renfield Street Cineworld, 2. Glasgow Showcase, 3. Braehead Odeon, 4. Vue Fort, 5 Glasgow Springfield Quay, 5. any other cinema in Glasgow area including Hamilton
Also Falkirk, Dunfermline and Stirling but these are rarely used for free previews.

I saw the film first and wasn't much of a fan but then I started reading the books (about half way through the 3rd now) and since then I've found a new appreciation for the film. I don't think it is the easiest book to adapt and thinking back to the film they really did well in creating the country of Panem. I just hope the sequel has less Shaky cam, I know that complaint has been said a million times but it did take me out of the film a fair bit

I'm a bit worried how they're going to adapt the next two. Mockingjay in particular is going to be harder, with the action kind of less easily camera-translatable. I think the translation of the action within the games was really the movie's strength - the script has to adapt a lot more with the action outside the arena.
