Thanks very much to andrews and Biggins for taking the time to write about your experiences in Madeira! It is such a shame to hear about places we love becoming too commercial and losing their charm. We found that on returning to Tenerife in 2007 after spending our honeymoon there in 1980.

We like chilling out on holiday & tend to avoid busy crowded places (no night clubs) so we picked a really nice hotel at the waterfront in Canico, outside of Funchal. Sadly, it went on fire 2 weeks ago, and the hotel the agents offered us as an alternative was in central Funchal! No thanks! Fortunately we have managed to get another in Canico - not our first choice but we are looking forward to it nevertheless.

We have hired a car and plan to visit the sights of Funchal amongst other places and I definitely fancy the Wicker Basket Run - it sounds great fun!

ciao ciao, am off to roma in March, :vacation: haven't been for years and would love to go to the opera, eat in some amazing places and dance the night away, can parlare Italiano, any modern info much appreciated :thanks:

Member number 33 of the "100 free films in 2012" club. I saw 32, which is rather delightful.. I beat Mr. Glass on free films but he narrowly inched me out on total films seen.

Member number 33 of the "100 free films in 2011" club. I saw 20, interestingly enough. My more realistic target was to see more free films than TheyCallMeMrGlass. I lost.

hey has anyone ever stopped at, or heard good thngs about the fallen angel in durham?
Thinking about using some leftovers of my student loan to grab a night and dinner for me and my bf sometime in august :)
