Re: London 2012 Olympics
Watched the torch pass through Denham today as it passed very close to my mum's house, far more people turned out than I could have ever expected the crowd was literally 10 deep for as far as the eye could see, Denham Village & Denham Green are quite small so really didn't think they'd be that many people, must have come from far and wide!
The torch was doubling back on itself but we just watched it go past the first time as it was just too hot and busy, glad the kids got to see it though.

Re: London 2012 Olympics
the torch itself is a bit of sad peice of tripe-ish metal, I can see that. But its only happening once as far as any human is going to see it really. So may as well see it, even in a right soulless, 'no one cares less' town like Kingston-upon-Thames.
I think it counts more if you can see it in a place you feel especially proud of and belong to, because its your place making the torch's visit special, rather than the torch making something special out of your town. You could tell the Liverpool crowd were feeling part of something special on the bbc coverage.
Also counts more if you happen to get a free concert in tow, and with that though, I'm off to Hyde Park on Thursday!

Re: London 2012 Olympics
I couldn't agree with you more raj101, had no interest in seeing the torch until I heard it was going through my mum's village past her her road, they had made it in to a fun day with other stuff going on before and after for the kids, was a really nice afternoon.
However, it was hot, really, hot, and as much as I am really looking forward to Thursday, I am a little worried about how hot it's going to be with no shade, we were only standing out for little over an hour today and that was really long enough and that was with the aid of a bottle of water and ice lolly! This can't take anything in with you rule is I think going to prove very expensive!

I think you are allowed to bring in your own food but not drinks but supposedly you can fill up water bottles inside. Many of the tickets are for 2-4 hours sessions so it may not be necessary to bring too much food. Son is heading up to Old Trafford for the first football games on Thursday and wonders if they will enforce the no drink rule there. He has a 6 hour coach ride after the second game so doesn't really want to have to give up all water.

Re: London 2012 Olympics
I don't know about the other events but the FAQs for the concert say no food or drink http://blog.cokezone.co.uk/faqs/ it's more drinks I'd be concerned about with the heat, so shall make sure I have some empty bottles to fill.ejwrank wrote:Rainey wrote:I couldn't agree with you more raj101, had no interest in seeing the torch until I heard it was going through my mum's village past her her road, they had made it in to a fun day with other stuff going on before and after for the kids, was a really nice afternoon.
