Ok, now that I've had a chance to read redgrant's post I will say this - I completely & utterly disagree with your entire post.
I admit it, up until tonight, I was extremely doubtful about the point of this project...but after seeing the footage, and more importantly, that un-f**king-believable trailer, I've all but forgotten about Sam Raimi's trilogy. You've got to admit - that was some DAMN GOOD 3D! (and I usually hate 3D)

Also, Andrew Garfield's Peter Parker / Spider-Man is head and shoulders above Tobey Macguire's. He oozes swag! Super-confident, witty and sarcastic without appearing arrogant nor like a total loser. Unless I'm mistaken, that's EXACTLY how Stan Lee envisioned the original character. And tell me you didn't have a smile on your face throughout that entire Gwen Stacey bit right at the start.

If there's a single criticism I do have about tonight's affair, it's that they showed WA-A-A-AY too much footage. That was at least half the movie, if not more! In that sense, Miss Turtle - consider yourself lucky. You'll get to see this with a completely fresh pair of eyes in about 6 months time.

Jayman, if it's better than Spiderman 2 (a superhero classic along with Dark Knight in mine and many people's eyes) then I'll eat my words. But I doubt it will be..

I agree with the point made in the other post that it'll be interesting to see what the real tipping point for Spiderman's birth will be. Previously it was Uncle Ben's death. Not sure what it'll be here

Yep, i'm sold. I thought it was going to be pointless going out for a few minutes of footage but i needed to know if my hype for the actual film was misplaced or not.

I arrived at 6:30 and i thought i would have time for a walk or a coke but no, the queue was already long. Took me by surprise but i joined. Met two equally enthusiastic fans behind me and we began talking and joking etc. There was a couple of camera going through the line and they asked one of the guys i was talking to for his best Spider-man pose to send to the execs in LA. He did a lame crouch. But then they asked me for mine and then I thought: "Well im here, it may not be that much footage so make the most of it, go all out", so i did his uber hand behind his back stretching up with the other hand fingers stretched on the floor pose. They were blown away and my photo was taken. Soon they came back with a film camera and interviewed us about our favourite villains, how long we were fans, etc.

As for the footage, it was great. Fantastic 3d (i still don't get how anyone can hate 3d. And not just because i've suffered pain in converted 2d to 3d and reconverging 3d plates before). I was a little disappointed when it seemed like we were only getting a trailer at first but i convinced myself that line interview and meet up and the stars mini interview made up for it. But then about 20 minutes of footage (atleast it felt like that amount). Yes, i am sold. Frakking amazing stuff (and is it me or does Gwen know he is Spider-man right off the bat), and Captain Stacy seems to be taking the role of J Jonah Jameson, which is a bit more of a threat since he has the resources and clout to actually put his hatred to Spider-man in action.

And Spider-man, finally some wisecracking sarcastic remarks during his battles and playing with his food "No please, not a real knife? Oh god i'm so screwed". And then the free t-shirt made the night even sweeter

Great night out and can't wait for the free screening of the full film (wishful thinking eh?)
