Very very good film and I'm so pleased that I went to a morning screening rather than after work as initially it took a little while getting my head around the 6 interlinked stories, all leads were brilliant and I did not recognise Hugh Grant in quite a few roles. Well worth seeing even if rather long and thanks to Yogi for the most welcome cup of coffee o/ 8/10

People are saying Tom Hanks was good in every role. He was apart from when he was trying to play Dermot Hoggins who was cockney/irish/whatever at times. Was impressed with the whole cast as they fulfilled each of their roles. And you must stay for the credits to see each actor/actresses role. Their names changes with the time period that their character acted in.

Saw this with the family at a full Southampton Odeon and it was a 50/50 split with us.I thought it was a great film, yes very long 172 mins but well acted. The six stories were cleverly changing between one another and it kept you interested as to what the outcome would be.It just goes to show what actions you take in life has repercussions later in the future.Loved the end credits with the faces of the stars in the different stories.Overall a great sunday morning.

Somebody mentioned here that the movie is based on a book. I didn't know that. Probably it would be easier to understand it if I read the book first.

As I understood, it is about human being behaviour through its life. Quite interesting but not mesmerising.
Love, passion, friendship, courage, greed, pride, demoralization, depravation, fear... which are shown throughout the centuries tells as how little have we changed.

    But is it really true?

You're welcome, and thanks for the cakes which kept us all going through the 3 hours.

The film was visually impressive, ambitious and well acted, but will certainly not be for everyone.

First of all, I'm a huge fan of Tom Hanks! But, Tom Hanks with cockney/Irish accent... terrible and completely unrealistic. The stories didn't blend in well and Hugo Weaving as a nurse... scary and comical. Hugh Grant was brilliant. Unfortunately, the film as a whole was very disappointing for me and I would rate as just an average film. I can't understand why 3 directors were needed... Lord of the Rings managed with Peter Jackson!

But I wouldn't discourage anyone from seeing it :) go see it and judge for youself.

Glad I got ticket as a freebie though.

This was an amazingly quiet and disruption-free screening at Vue Islington. I couldn't figure out whether people sat in raptured silence or had simply fallen asleep.

Because woa... what was THAT. Incredibly disjointed and confusing, obviously way too long and apart from the same actors turning up again and again I could not figure out how any of the stories were interconnected. I was playing a constant "spot the actor" game: Tom Hanks. Jim Sturgess again. Oh yeah, Ben Wishaw. Is that Hugh Grant? And another Hugo Weaving baddie. That's Halle Berry again. And Jim Sturgess. Tom Hanks. Ha ha - is that nurse Hugo Weaving? And Jim Broadbent no. 3. Or 4? I mean WHAT. I have never needed that long to get into a film but after 90 minutes or so I decided to just go with the flow and let it all wash over me. No idea what that report was Halle Berry was chasing in 1976 or why she knew the composer piece as I don't think she turned up in the story before that time. Or what any of that had to do with a sea journey in 1849. And what the f**k was that future stuff with Jim Sturgess and the Asian woman? "Our lives are not our own." Yeah, whatever. And the less said about the Hanks/Berry thing in the future which was a weird mixture of stone age and futuristic technology, the better. Also, Tom Hanks with that cockney accent was embarrassing. The farce in the nursing home was a bitterly needed laugh - "I know, I know" but Susan Sarandon was frightfully underused.

Despite all this, it was weirdly entertaining. I don't b*y into any of the "deep" stuff about our lives being intertwined, yadda yadda, but it was some seriously good acting involved and some thrilling bits in the future. Also some shock moments and I screamed a little when a car seemed to hit Halle Berry.

    Score? No idea yet.

    Slightly baffled from Docklands.
For me (i have not read the book), it is best to ignore that the same actors play multiple roles. I think this is a red herring & very misleading.

The key is that we live on through our art & our actions. The art seems to be the key...the diary of the son who visited the slave plantatition inspires the composer of the cloud atlas symphony which imspires the editor who writes the book written about the escape from the oap home that is turned into a film that inspires a revolution by the clone/replicants.

Again, these are only my opinions & again, i have not read the book.
9/10 extraordinarily ambitious.
