Saw this today.

Don't believe the hype. There is nothing new here that has not been done before and/or better.

Bog standard faire.

Have you seen the trailer ? Well, that's as good as it gets.

A hugely disappointing 3/10. No scares. No jump-out-of-yer-skin moments. Nada

ps "true story" my arse!

Hey guys, been a while since I posted thoughts on the films I watched at the cinema but I caught a showing of this today. A late show in fact...well come on, its gotta be a late show for maximum effect, right?

I just love these kind of supernatural movies even if they dont offer anything new to the genre, guess I am a junkie for them.

And this one offers nothing new, nothing. YET, its still a highly enjoyable thrill ride throwing all the works in to scaring the bejesus out of ya complemented with a decent character journey storyline.

But I still have to stress it offers nothing radical or new. The sound and atmosphere is the absolute same as any other modern haunted house movie, the story is nothing new either except it does a nice little trick with intertwining two seperate stories together. The jumps wont actually scare most of us thespian viewers of this genre and its mostly misses than hits (for less experienced, it will be scary enough) but it does have quite an exhilarating climb towards a terrific edge of the seat final act.

I really dug this, though, love it even. The actors both young and experienced play their parts well, giving a slightly more emotional depth than the norm, complete with the usual comic relief character thrown in for good measure.

But like I said, nothing new (think I said that three times, I am guessing you got my point), same ingredients but still a real fun ride. I'm ignoring the ridiculous notion that is a true story by the way...if I start believing in such things, I'll never be able go to sleep and I would have to chuck out my wide eye doll with a broken eyelid that's sitting in a rocking chair in the corner. Now excuse me while I go find out what the hell is that banging noise in the cellar...

8/10

Aw I dont know how you put up with my often incoherent thoughs, though lol. Hungry to see more films, my summer job will be finished in two weeks, I'm hoping Wolverine and World's End will still be in the cinemas by then.

Went to see this last night and thought it had a great cast, decent & well paced storyline and an above average amount of scary moments 8O .

Although I agree it wasn't particularly original it felt like more of a homage than a rip off of numerous other horror flicks so overall it gets a 9/10 from me o/ ...

Went to see this today, like everyone say's it's nothing new but in defence of this type of film, it's all been done before several times over so when i choose to go and see a film of this genre i go in judging it not only on the content alone but how well the content is delivered, i have to say this is well above average for this genre, excellently delivered and fast paced, i took my friend to see this as we both love the genre and over the course of Friday nights over the last few years we have worked our way through every film of this type known to man :p Terry's in his 70's and very hard to please when it comes to this type of movie (he loved it) as did i , definitely the best of this type in recent years, a solid 9/10 from me o/

I was really hoping to be spooked when I watched this but I really wasn't and that was a shame.

there was nothing really new here and although it was brilliantly made to look like it was made back in the 70s it just lacked in something. The spooks were pretty much as expected and I didn't jump once - though a few people around me did.

The other problem was the fact there were other people in the cinema and sometimes i hate other people in the cinema - 1. turn your phone off and leave it off, 2. STFU!

I was so angry I shuuuushhed people. they did calm down a bit but still, i don't want a running commentary throughout the film you're killing it for me, for yourself and for everyone else. GAH

That probably didn't help with the spook factor to be honest so that's not really fair on the film, but still, it was all a little expected on the whole.

Saw this awhile back now. Usually love horror films but hate true life ones as it gives me the creeps, but this one was so far fetched there was no danger of me having any nightmares. Patrick Wilson is appearing in far too many 'similar' horror film now.
