That looks brilliant and I can't believe it was only last weekend that I gave away 2 pallets on Freecycle :wall: - I would be more annoyed but the gentleman was so grateful :D A roof terrace and courtyard sounds so sophisticated - let us know what colours and type of garden your looking for and the resident experts will be able to advise you (I just add my bits of useless advice  ).

Well how nice to hear that someone picking up a Freecycle item was so grateful -- it ain't always the case!

Think you made a typo on that last post of yours Diane65. I'm quite sure you meant bits of useful advice! At least that's how I would read it.

You are so kind ejwrank but as I don't really know what I'm doing it is best if my gardening advice is taken with a pinch of salt (not just for the slugs ;) ) at the moment but I am learning from the experts o/

Ifound this site which had a section on vertical growing. I am really thinking about the the shoeholder one for indoor herbs.
http://forums2.gardenweb.com/forums/loa ... 22670.html

shoe holder, using a gutter, garden pots
After a quick image search, I found these ideas
https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=verti ... 24&bih=471
and then on a smaller scale

I will be looking around the shed, when I get back, to see if there any PVC pipes, or bits of gutter not in use.

Feel quite inspired everyone. have a good weekend. Remember Preston said it was easir to pull up weeds from wet/damp ground. I suppose that's our 'silver linning'.

He is lucky to have such an inspirational friend :giggle: ;) He probably has another special word to describe me
The delightful steve is now on the look out for plants for my mother and myself at the carboot sale in the morning - he is very kind.

Has anyone grown a wisteria and how hardy are they plus are they difficult to grow? I am getting a bit carried away with myself and all these ideas  On the plus side I have a project that will last me most weekends over the summer so I'm delighted as I'm never happier than when I have a mission in life. :D I too am after container ideas as will be doing up my mother's too but she isn't very tall so can't do hanging baskets as either she can't reach them to water them or the rest of us knock them off when passing by.

Hi everyone hope you have been enjoying the nice weather doing a spot of gardening.

Firstly a big thanks to steve for getting my mother a very healthy looking Camelia she is delighted with it. I have just b*ght a couple of bright pink rhodedendrums from Home Bargains which were on offer for £3.99 which I am growing in a container (one for me and one for my mother), got my Lily of the Valley and Bleeding Heart soaking and have just planted out a campanula https://www.google.co.uk/shopping/produ ... P4BEKYrMA0 (it was a pressie for the house from M&S but can't see why it won't grow outside).

Now I quite fancy growing some herbs and salad inspired by Preston1990 and ejwrank in something like this https://www.google.co.uk/shopping/produ ... P4BEKYrMA0 (not that I can't bend purely because it would look nice outside the back door) could I grow it all together or am I best planting herbs separate from salad? This maybe a mad question so sorry if it is. I could do with a month of work to get it all done but then again I wouldn't appreciate it all if I did it all at once.

Looking forward to hearing about everybody's projects and that includes you steve ;)

Well Diane -- I'm not a gardener but we have a variety of herbs growing happily in our rockery (fennel, chives, thyme and sage). The sage and thyme can be pick year round. The chives give up in the autumn but come back each year. I grow mint and lemon balm n separate pots as they are very invasive. And I have two large plants of rosemary -- one in a tub and one in a pot--these were presents given to me but one would be plenty. When the weather warms up I will grow some parsley, basil and maybe some dill. We used to have loads of rocket in our garden long before it got fashionable. It's gone now but I may try that again as I like it and I could save a bit of money.

I would think there is no problem growing your salad and herbs together but what do I know???

Don't know about project but seems I may have found new employment as a personal shopper.
