I went to see this last night. Haven't time to detail my thoughts on it but I enjoyed it very much and being a co host for a time travel enthusiasts group, it excites me more that we get TWO big time travel blockbusters in the space of a week!

Its obviously a Groundhog Day premise...which in turn would have been inspired by the this superb short film which came a few years before it:

Having not seen the trailers I was happily super surprised to see this was also set in the future and
with aliens.
The film gave me some nostalgic nods to Starship Troopers and Cameron's Aliens. Bill Paxton was fun to watch (he's also got a great fun turn in the Marvel Avengers series which absolutely rocks btw). Its ironic that the Tom Cruise character is the one that says "game over" in the film

My only gripe with this movie is the ending although it totally makes sense in the film's established canvas of plausibility, I felt it missing an opportunity. I wished:
the ending had tom cruise actually dying but it was the girl who got the power of reset back. This would have worked neatly because 1. She was facing the alpha alien and 2. She warmed to cruise in the end saying she wished she knew him more. Getting the power back would have changed perspective for her to reset and switch around the whole premise where she is approaching cruise who has no idea about the power and she will get to know him more but...a rather cowardly side to him that would have been a cooler ending for me, but Hollywood chooses to play it safe with a stuck on complete happy ending as they annoying did with another cruise related sci I shan't mention.
8/10

I saw this in 3d. It was actually quite effective. There was a fair dose of "out of screen" effects and occasional depth and no cross talk. Action scenes only slightly blurry. Naturally darker scenes of which there are many lose a little detail. However, if you like 3d this one won't be a waste of money unlike Godzilla.

I thought this was great, thoroughly enjoyed. (Far more than I'd expected to!)

I'm a Tom Cruise fan but wasn't sure about the role and the story...thought he played a great role, as did Emily Blunt.

Would definitely recommend.

I didn't fancy going to the premier at 6am so got tickets for Enfield instead. Bit of a shambles at the start since the 3D didn't work and was just blurred vision. Had a giggle at the Times+ woman who said "the 3D glasses aren't working". The culprit turned out to be dodgy lead or something so they started the film from scratch, which gave all the late comers a chance to see it from the beginning.

The film itself wasn't that bad, better than expected. Thankfully it had the tongue in cheek humour otherwise it would have been a bit lackluster for me. Throughout the film I kept thinking I've seen the Mimics before and later realised they were taken from one of The Matrix films. 6/10

Not too sure what I was expecting from this film - did enjoy it but not sure it would be something I would want to see again. Think it would be worth the price of the ticket though - for me 7/10.

I enjoyed this and hadn't seen the trailer beforehand so didn't know what I was letting myself in for. Tom Cruise was typical Tom Cruise, I think you either love him or hate him. Wouldn't necessarily watch it again but didn't find myself checking my watch at any point.

I enjoyed the first half of this, but the gimmick soon got old. There were some odd time jumps, edits and things that just happened without explanation. I think some of the supporting cast were wasted (literally) and the ending was very lazy and abrupt with no real justification.

However, I thought the 3D was very good. The CG was quite impressive amongst the generally rubbish standards of most blockbusters these days and I loved Bill Paxton as the drill sergeant,

Saw this last weekend & felt that they did a good job of preventing the 'live, die, repeat' concept from becoming repetitive narratively speaking.

Performance wise Emily Blunt was solid and it's always good to see Tom Cruise playing characters that are less than perfect.

In terms of my understanding of how time travels works (theoretically ;) ) the final five minutes made little sense but as the everything up to that point was very enjoyable it still did more than enough to get an 8/10 from me...

Just a little something to make the last 5 minutes all the more understandable for you Razor! (and anyone else confused!)
The Omega had the ability to reset the DAY. At the end, he woke up in the helicopter before arriving for his meeting, that shipped him to the barracks(this was all the same day) So since he had technically 'died' and the omega revived him, the power was used a final time, and he woke back up in the helicopter as that was the start of that day for him, that was when he woke up :) If he'd woke up at 6pm at night, that would be the start of the day for him instead, if that makes sense? :)
Though this does add confusion for the fact that he always woke up in the barracks :o

The last time the day was reset, he died earlier (it was still night) so was able to wake to an earlier moment as it was also a fresh steal of the time travel power.
Cheers for the above but the problem I had wasn't that I didn't understand what happened it's just that (in my mind at least) it wouldn't work like that i.e I don't agree with the concept of events rippling backwards in time...
