Sounds like you all enjoyed it then... I'm catching it in the morning, bloody friday prices, sigh. If it's not good I won't be surprised, but I need to see a new film, can't keep watching Scott Pilgrim every week.

Just back from seeing it, didn't expect too much as some pals in America were disappointed, and seeing as I'm not much of a mumblecore guy (Really hated both Monsters and Me, You & Everyone We Know) I was surprised at just how good it was. Of course I'd give it a higher score if it wasn't so strict on the mumblecore guidelines of having no ending and forgetting to hold/focus the ruddy camera.
Still, I chuckled throughout and the acting was excellent, a mix of humour, darkness, offbeat, off-kilter squirm inducing scenes, all brilliant, and man, Marissa Tomei and Catherine Keener? I'll just think about them for another couple hours.
8/10

I went to see "The Girl who Played with Fire" again at my local Cineworld today.

I say "again" because I'd been to see it at a free screening at the Gate in Newcastle a while ago. I didn't see it then though because they didn't actually have the film. So I was really looking forward to seeing it at last today.

Now I know what you are thinking - You're thinking "He's posted this in the wrong thread". Well you'd be wrong because this time we couldn't see TGWPWF because they hadn't received the digital unlock password thing for it.

So we were offered complimentary tickets to use on another occasion and a choice of any free screening we fancied then and there instead.

……..We picked "Cyrus". See - I am in the right thread ;)

I know loads of people on here thought it was less than brilliant, but I thought it was exceptionally good. Certainly it’s a major departure from anything else that I've seen Jonah Hill (Cyrus) in.

I thought it felt strange to see Jonah acting out a serious role, and the interplay between Cyrus, his mother and John was just awesome. At various times immensely funny, sad, quirky, awkward, intense and dark it was never less than compelling viewing throughout. The time flew by and I was transfixed from start to finish.

At the risk of becoming even more clichéd than I usually am, I'd say that this for me was "quite a refreshing change from your normal romcom fare". And yes I must have spouted similar stuff for my last 5 or so film reviews – but this really was different (despite being a romcom), believe me.

If you want to see some fabulously intense acting around a bizarrely surreal relationship then this is the film for you. Not an awful lot happens in the film but that, as they say, is part of its charm.

Go and watch it – 8.5 out of 10.

Now I just need to book tickets for The Girl Who played with Fire (again) :D

Poor you Preston! Well at least you can now add that to your film count!

Lets hope you are third time lucky. I really enjoyed TGWPWF, I think you will too!

I was quite disappointed with this movie. After reading the reviews I knew I was going in to watch a quirky yet funny film but it wasn't funny throughout. The acting was great and there were a few laugh out loud moments. The mother-son relationship was certainly bizzare! I felt that it could have been a great comedy but they focussed too much on the drama aspect especially since there really isn't much of a storyline which makes it quite slow paced. I liked the unsual ending of the movie though. 6/10

Yes it's not an out and out comedy but more of a dramedy, but I guess when you see Jonah Hill, people just assume it's going to be a comedy

Saw this with some Mastercard codes tonight (many many thanks to PeteYork) Thank goodness it was free cos it was terrible. Shame really as the concept of the story could've been marvellous but the timescale was all whack, there was no sense of how long they'd been in a relationship, so I didn't b*y the separation agony. From the trailer I thought it was gonna be a comedy - wrong! And I didn't think there was any intensity between Cyrus and John, they could've done so much more to show the one-up-man-ship between them. - v poor. 2/10
oh btw, the guy who plays the lead is slighlty errr... handsomely challenged !?!?
