Re: The American
I have to agree with those that found it a bit slow too ... when to compared to other movies of its genre. 6.5 out of 10

Re: The American
I seem to be in the minority.
I saw this at the Filmhouse in Edinburgh today and loved it.
I found the cinematography and the settings very atmospheric and added greatly to the film.
It was very different to Control, Corbjn's last film (which I loved) but it was very well done.
I didn't find it slow, I enjoyed the build up of the suspense and the story.
Clooney was excellent as were the supporting cast of European actors.
8/10 from me.

Re: The American
twas a good movie, Alfy. just a bit slow in places, but i too thought all the scenes were significant in that they build on Edward's lifestyle. The film certainly had levels to it. The sparseness of dialogue really added to the film and Ed's character.
wonderful scenery, although i was expecting sweden more!
it had a very 70's feel to the filming, rather than the characters (ie the characters werent dressed in flares, but the way the film was shot felt like a good movie you watched from that period). well a bit anyway.

Re: The American
Another fine film, with George Clooney and the Italian countryside putting in excellent performances. The film is an engrossing character study, and George Clooney is on screen almost constantly, giving a tremendously crafted portrait of a man trying to escape his fate. It is a bleak film, defining the character's solitude perfectly. A little slow in places, this film built up the tension gradually, leading the audience towards the final denouement, which was, perhaps, all too predictable.
8/10 from me.

Re: The American
Saw this today instead of The Kings Speech as the reel hadn't turned up because of the bad weather. Slow and disappointing it was only the italian scenery and George Clooney that kept me awake. Still don't know why they were after him and who he was working for? 5/10
Made missing The Kings Speech all the more disappointing. Looks like I will have to p*y to see it.
