Has anyone seen both The Shadow Formula and The 39 Steps?
I think whoever wrote The Shadow Formula was "heavily influenced". Shame they didn't manage to pull it off! Worlds apart.
The comedic timing in The 39 Steps was bang on. The humour wasn't necessarily my cup of tea, but I still laughed quite a few times. Was very impressed by the two men who weren't the lead, the managed to switch back and forth between characters seamlessly - the scene with the train and the scene in the B&B were particularly good.

Has anyone seen Shrek the Musical from the Balcony (the very top section)? TM Deals currently doing tickets for £10, have never been that interested in seeing this particular musical, but at that price considering taking the kids. Had a quick look on Theatre Monkey which doesn't say anything too bad about the seats on offer, is it worth it?
Preferred Cinema's now Paignton or Exeter!

I agree, both great scenes! Fantastic use of imagination, really made you believed the imaginary props were there

We saw Shrek from the balcony section with preview tickets and the atmosphere was great with cheers, laughter and clapping. We were in the middle section though. I b*ght Shrek ears for £1 from The Entertainer shop before going and was glad I did as a lot of people all ages were wearing the ears during the show. I did not expect to enjoy the show as much as I did and only really booked because the children were keen to see it. It was fun to watch.Rainey wrote:Has anyone seen Shrek the Musical from the Balcony (the very top section)? Yeah right come on, admit you dragged your children there; you wanted to gosusancs wrote:We saw Shrek from the balcony section with preview tickets and the atmosphere was great with cheers, laughter and clapping. A review of the different show, from the Balcony at the Drury Lane Theatre. http://www.dooyoo.co.uk/theatre-musical ... l/1252844/
Of course things can vary from show to show. But I think expectations are important. If you are content beforehand that these are cheap seats and the view is going to be restricted you can handle it.
Though in your case you are taking children. So my advice, take cold drinks with you; its likely to get warm up there. Bring change for the glasses the kids will have fun with those. And explain the situation to them by telling them (if true) it means you save money so you can take them to McDonalds or something afterwards. If they are teenagers, well tell them, 'cheap tickets, thats life'.

I sat in the balcony for The Lord of the Rings in the same theatre and would never voluntarily sit there again. Height aside (it's to be expected from the "cheap seats") there is very little leg room and the incline is extremely steep (much more so than other theatres I've experienced) making it an uncomfortable ans slightly dizzying experience.Rainey wrote:Has anyone seen Shrek the Musical from the Balcony (the very top section)? I would have to agree with this comment. I sat in the Balcony for The Producers and although the show was good I did feel uncomfortable as there was very little leg room and the height borders on being a little scary.canadian_turtle wrote:I sat in the balcony for The Lord of the Rings in the same theatre and would never voluntarily sit there again. Re: Free Theatre/Concert Tickets Discussion Thread
Thanks for all the feedback re Shrek seats, very helpful as always. Poor kids are used to getting the cheap seats or not knowing what we'll get until we get there (SFF/Sky etc) was just thinking £30 for the 3 of us was a very cheap night at the theatre for us all, limited leg room we could cope with they are not that big, but if it's dizzying high/steep not sure daughter would enjoy it.

Really enjoyed the 39 Steps. Much more of a comedy than I expected, but really enjoyed the humour of the spy thriller. Theatre itself was a bit cramped, but I'd really recommend it to anyone interested!
Re: Free Theatre/Concert Tickets Discussion Thread
also really enjoyed 39 steps. and for a cast of only 4 people they did a good job compare to other plays ive seen. very funny
