Brilliant programme, allsinging and Peteyork!
Re the other suggestions - love Amelie, Il postino, Cinema Paradiso, etc., but not sure about whether the subtitles will be a turn off.
As for In Bruges - everyone (across ages) I know has enjoyed it, including my mum, who thought it was a bit like a visit there without getting on a plane. Bless.
But not sure that older neighbour would like the language and violence.
And Beate, I guess that is part of the difference in age - mental age. If you want films like they used to have, then that is an oldie. But films can keep people young!

I've just been checking out In Bruges and understand the dark humour points a friend made, but agree with everyone here who said how enjoyable it was. Thanks again.Cortone wrote: ...........................................

It's such a hard job checking out (i.e. watching) all these films, still I suppose someone has to do it!!!
BTW In Bruges has it that all the hotels are full because of Christmas, but all the tourist hot spots seem very empty - or did I go at the wrong times?
I once went hiking with M. C. Escher. It was uphill all the way there and uphill all the way back.

Re: Selby Community Cinema - Help Wanted
If it was me I would choose:
probably the reader over haloween films - everyones seen them a million times already
the boat that rocked over the hangover definitely
sing alongs are a really good idea and sound of musics aways does well at these but grease would be just as popular i expect
is anybody there is a good film for the oldies but they would probably prefer a film theyd heard of (I know weve all heard of it as it had previews but it got a very limited release and publicity elsewhere) or an old classic - if you did laurel and hardy my fav is always sons of the desert, but what about gone with the wind as a classic?
all your choices are great though!

You keep making so many changes, I really can't keep up any more! You need to have Slumdog Millionaire in there somewhere, Boat that rocked instead of Hangover, and to be honest, I have no idea what Conversations with my Gardener is! I think you should have Mamma Mia later though, in a cold month! Otherwise, great list!

This is just fabulous, allsinging! You and Peteyork have been busy with this wonderful project. I have enjoyed reading the previous posts and seeing how you have come to make your decisions. Do you have to publicise all the films you intend showing? Do you have to order them a certain number of months in advance? You could advertise the first few, and hold the rest up your sleeve as it were. Which night are you hoping to show the films? I would love to be among the audience! All the best!

Re: Selby Community Cinema - Help Wanted
Thank you Andrews, we only need the first 4 to be honest for the printers. We got a grant for publicity that will cover the posters and flyers, large banner etc, the rest are a skeleton/guideline to work from...but still really important and it gives us confidence in where we are heading ( well for meandrews wrote:This is just fabulous, allsinging! Then December (when we have asked our audience what they would like to see in coming months from list of say 3, one of which is from the skeleton list ) the Silver Screen will be ready to lauch and we apply for another grant to re-advertise the whole thing again with both screeings until May.
Hope that made sense...
The main screenings would be the third monday in the month starting in September (19th) with the Silver Screen launching on the third Thursday of the month starting from January(21st ). So they would just be a couple of days apart.
Finalising the list in the morning with Pete and then meeting spanner in the afternoon
