Re: Project Nim
Yes, Christian the Lion. You probably saw the youtube video of the reunion. It wasn't part of a documentary. Somebody did b*y the rights for the story with the idea of making a film but that hasn't happened yet.

Re: Project Nim
Oh right it was a lion! Thanks so much for clearing that up
I couldn't find it online when I was trying to look for it before but then I was looking for a monkey story not a lion one
ETA: There seems to be a full movie of it already which I think I caught part of on television many moons ago http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0074315/

Re: Project Nim
Saw this at the Filmhouse in Edinburgh this morning. First time in 9 years of preview screenings I've seen one there. It was 90% full which is very good considering the city is packed out with the Festival being on and loads of stuff on to do.
This did make my blood boil and me be sad too. Poor Nim! Bloody hippies - what a nightmare. i feel so sorry for what that poor chimp went through in his life and how they protaginists, didn't see, even on reflection, that they'd done anything wrong. Bob you were the only sane thing in the whole film and if I just randomly met you I'm not sure I'd have reached the same conclusion, but you genuinely had affection and the best interests of Nim throughout. The others were collective of nutters for a collection of reasons, I think it was telling only 1 child of the 7 the first "Mum" had spoke. I'd be interested to know what the other 6 thought and indeed if they still speak to their Mum? She was really weird.
the comparisons with ROTPOTA yesterday were obvious. I much preferred this film as a skilled and intelligent documentary to the Hollywood fluff from yesterday. I loved Man on Wire and this was a seriously good documentary too. If you have a heart, watch it.

Re: Project Nim
tbh, there wasnt many suprises here for me. If scientists can cage animals on drugs then Nim got off lightly by their standards, though this doesnt detract from the appalling treatment he received.
I understand that some of the hippies were actually quite nice to him so it wasnt all doom and gloom as it is depicted. Though theres probably a good reason the poor guy died relatively early for a chimp of a heart attack, his heart had been broken enough times to warrant that.

Wow these kind of research have been going since the 70s! It's good though the documentary.

This film broke my heart. I'm so glad Nim had Bob to look out for him. To be passed from pillar to post and then forgotten was the cruelest thing and I hope Herb gets his one day. Very moving.

Re: Project Nim
I must have been watching a different film or director James Marsh really got what he wanted. I really didn't see Herb Terrace as the pantomine villain in this piece.
Although it had been noted, it was Herb who notified people of Nim's plight at Lemsip, but this wasn't mentioned in the film.

Re: Project Nim
There is an interesting two page article about Nim and the film in today's Times but I can't give you an online link, I am afraid, as you have to be subscribed to access it.
