Re: Song For Marion
Saw this in Sheffield film started about 10 minutes late and someone to our left spoke loudly for around 15 minutes. Luckily they stopped before I could work out which row it was coming from.
I really enjoyed this laughed and cried. 6.5/10 :)

Re: Song For Marion
Formulaic and predictable but nevertheless a sweet little film that didn't overstay its welcome. It was much funnier at the beginning, I snorted quite a few times, but unfortunately it got a bit maudlin after that. Didn't expect Vanessa Redgrave to be around for half the film! It made Terence Stamp's transformation feel a little bit rushed. I normally can't stand Christopher Ecclestone but he was ok here. Didn't cry as much as I thought I might but had a few tears in my eyes at that terribly sad song at the end.
Lovely to see jojojoanne and queue up with her next to the lying usher ("No, I don't know which screen it will be yet." "You can go through now then.")
8/10

Re: Song For Marion
quite enjoyed this, despite myself.
however, found it hard to believe terence stamp as a doddering suburban grandad, whose favorite songs were by martin or sinatra.
this is the same terence stamp who was at the epicenter of swinging sixties london & during that time, shared a "pad" with that other young ladykiller, micheal caine.
i know he was playing a part, but he is a very, very limited actor who tends to play himself (exception being the wonderful priscilla queen of the desert)
christopher eccleston nailed his performance & was excellent.
that said, mildly diverting, 5/10.

Saw this for the second time tonight in Glasgow. Went with some friends after a pizza meal out. Enjoyed it as much the second time! Not brain taxing and certainly a mixture of emotions for the characters. No howling woman tonight, thank goodness though I did provide the paper hankie in advance to a particular friend who can be easily in tears.

Re: Song For Marion
Did anyone else see an American documentary called Young @ Heart about 5 years ago? I saw it at the cinema when I was in New Zealand but I'd have expected it had a cinema release here?
It's the real story of a choir of OAPs in Northampton, MA, USA who perform their take of modern pop/rock and clearly the inspiration, to some extent, behind this?
See: http://www.youngatheartchorus.com/
I loved the documentary and whilst this was nowhere near as good, the actors did a class job. I thought Christopher Eccleston played it spot on as the son.

Not up there with BEMH and Quartet, but then I wasn't expecting it to be and this was perfectly watchable, if undistinguished and predictable. And actually, these days I'm almost happy to settle for a film which doesn't contain certain things, e.g. excessive swearing, violence, CGI, so on that basis, this one gets the thumbs up!

Re: Song For Marion
Saw this tonight at West India Quay. Headed straight for the Screening Room and ignored the little fella who told me to wait in the bar!! Shortly after, I was joined by a nice girl who I'd chatted to while waiting in line at Greenwich for a previous screening (neither of us could remember what film it was!!) Not long after that, Beate and OH showed up. OH was in a dancing mood, so naturally I joined him in a little boogie!! Sat with Beate and enjoyed this film. Christopher Eccleston is one of my fave actors. I am usually VERY emotional - I've been known to cry at adverts!! And yet, I didn't shed a single tear with this film!! I think I was being brave because Beate was there!! If I was on my own in my living room, I think I would've cried my eyes out!!
