seems it is a bit of a marmite love it or hate it film. I liked it.

i thought it was very very wierd and twisted but funny. i thought the Rock did a stand out performance.and it feels like a real guilty pleasure (is that the word?) when you laugh at such greusome murders. The families of the victims are, understandably upet.

had to go and do a bit of reading on the backstory and was surprised how much truth there was in this version of events. wiki has a list comparing real life vs film: eg: there were 6 botched attempts at the snatch before they got it right; the film shows 3.

i was too long overall and from the beginning i kept thinking 'that was unnecessary' but i guess that all the extra gloss was for a michael bay film.

i liked this review on slash film about michael bay http://www.slashfilm.com/fou-difference ... chael-bay/. it also contains links to the journal articles that film is based on.

Watched Pain and Gain on Tuesday, I have to say that it started out quiet funny but soon became quiet boring. Although it was based on a true story I did not find it amusing.

I caught this film on Tuesday night and unfortunately thought the trailer oversold it.

Definitely funny in parts but given that this was based on a true story, I felt the aspects of kidnap, torture and murder were treated in a wholly inappropriate manner.

On the plus side, The Rock/ Dwayne Johnson was the standout performance of this film and will hopefully continue to get roles that don't simply portray him as an action hero.

This is not the sort of film I would normally choose but so glad I made the effort to go because I thought it was a funny, entertaining and fascinating movie. The performances were impressive - particularly loved Dwayne Johnson - and the true story intrigued me enough to check it out on my arrival home. Was surprised to see that much of the action portrayed on screen was actually pretty close to actual events. I would recommend giving it a viewing.

Well for a so-called comedy this was really really unfunny. There was not a single laugh heard in the cinema this afternoon (and it was a local holiday so reasonably busy). Boy oh boy does it drag too. As it is mostly told in flashback and you pretty much know the ending, it seemed like it could have ended at any number of points, but no - it just went on and on.
I can believe that it could have some element of truth in it as there were certain events that didn't seem to add much in the way of story to the film (eg. a toe), and some references that were so mundane they had to be true. Indeed photos of the "actual" characters were shown over the credits. But hey! How many times have we seen that mechanism of showing a "true story"?

Who found the scene with the basketball and the kids totally cringeworthy?

Definitely more Pain and less Gain.

I'm going for a 5/10 on this one.

I watched this a few weeks ago and hadn't commented on it yet.
Did a little research and turns out that the storyline is actually based on true events...albeit changed around a bit (as they do in movies). Bottom line, if you're dumb...don't do crime! lol
As for the movie it's so-so, 6/10
