Decided to view this again last night - only one day later. (Well we are now in a huge drought, unlike South England :-( ) Was amazed at both how quickly the time flew by and also how much I didn't pick up on first viewing. It was as enthralling second time around. A pleasure.

book thief rating

#53 Post by jetmydog01 » Wed Feb 12, 2014 2:23 pm

Saw the book thief this evening. Film totally captured the book, audience was silent from start to finish, because of the excellent acting, script and scenery.
If you get a chance to see this film take it, it is rare you get a story line that gets your attention from the very begining. :D

As a big fan of the book I found myself a bit disappointed by this. Great performances and good sense of place aside, it didn't move me or make me feel as much as the novel, which is a shame because the relationships between Liesel and her parents are drawn out so well. Enjoyed it but I was expecting a bit more. 6/10

Folks, don't get on my nerves please. This is the second time I had to merge a thread. If there is a thread already, please use it. Don't open a new one.

Simply amazing film and not having read the book before did not know what to expect. The film almost lures you in to a false sense of security as you laugh as Hans and Rosa 'enjoy' each others company and you forget that it is really story about children in war and the loss they suffer.
Three generations of my family came along and we all shed bucket loads of tears.
My Daughter, 13, said it was best film she has ever seen (better than Star Trek!).
Everything in this film just made sense, even if War does not.
War never makes sense unless you are 'Death'
10/10 from all four of us.

Saw this on Monday night as like everyone else loved it.

Did not like the voice over or clouds , thought this detracted from an otherwise perfect film.
The acting of young Liesel and Rudi was spellbinding. The story was so well told and the characters and actions quite understandable and believable. As others have said we often forget what it must have been like to have been an average person on the other side andhwo often it is easier to say nothing and keep your head down.

Emil Watson superb as ever as was Geoffrey Rush

Like McG would happily watch this again, but unlike Stuartboy not the next day.

Glad you and your mum enjoyed Mum's sweeties and hope you liked my love hearts........... Poor attempt at valentine sweeties for the folks I saw.

9.5/10 from us. Failed to get the 10/10 because of the annoying voiceover.

Finally getting chance to review this film, saw this in Glasgow on Monday with OH, teddybear1, McG and moggers.

A very inspiring story and great performances from all actors involved.

Although I though it was very good, I didn't enjoy it just as much as so many others seem to have. Found that I was looking at my watch throughout, was a bit too long and thought story could have been told in less time. In saying that, I totally understood why it was paced that way.

7/10 from me.
