I would love to build a snowman but not enough snow in Croydon.
Fingers crossed for all those in work that we are able to get home safely.
And what about the fact we only have 1 week left of gas:(

Here is the article - http://uk.news.yahoo.com/5/20100105/tbs ... 7c223.html

Turn your thermostats down by 1 degree and put on extra clothes. Or fly away to sunnier destinations - An aricle by Reuters 1 hour ago -

Sales of fur coats and swimsuits are soaring as Britons either wrap up against the worst cold snap for 30 years or take advantage of cut-price holidays to escape to warmer climes.
Department stores group Debenhams said on Wednesday sales of faux-fur coats were up around 22 percent year-on-year and sales of thermal underwear, usually only b*ght in quantity in Scotland, were up 14 percent.

"It's meant to be 'fur coat and no knickers', but our sales prove the old adage wrong -- this winter it's about fur coats and thermal knickers," said spokeswoman Elena Antoniou.

Debenhams also noted a 125 percent surge in sales of swimwear as Britons snap up cut-price offers from tour operators to seek warmer weather abroad.

Marks & Spencer also reported strong demand for leggings, opaque tights, gloves and scarves as it unveiled a rise in underlying Christmas sales, but warned the snow was disrupting business as well.

"We lost a substantial millions of pounds in the last 10 days to Christmas," Chairman Stuart Rose told analysts on a conference call, adding the overall impact of the cold weather so far had probably been neutral.

"But if it continues like this over a 10-day, two-week, three-week period, it will affect everybody," he added.

I believe NHS and other such important public service do have a have a clause that specific staff must work continuous shift if no shift replacement arrives but must be pa*d accordingly for their difficult efforts.

jmd1983, you're right in a way but if its a life and death situation I'd be grateful the doctor stayed on!

I wish everyone here who has travelled some distance to work, have a safe journey home. Perhaps leave early if it helps.

I have been out, slipped and decided to slide back home again. Damn these new CAT boots, thought they were supposed to be good for gripping on ice, my nike running shoes got better grip. Wonder if anyone recommends a good pair of boots for ice but not wellies as I live in london, snow never gets that high.

My amazing shoes b*ght for travelling and supposed to only be great in dry conditions are amazing in mud, ice and snow as well. They are Merrell Sirens and my OH has a pair as well (Intercept) and loves them.

Heating turned down to 19 now so can I stop feeling bad? ;)

I'm not going anywhere in this without my trusty Tchibo snow-grippers. They are really earning their keep, and fit on my Merrell trainers, my wellingtons, my shoes and everything.

The Merrel Intercept sounds great I want to try it on the high street, hope I find a store that stocks them.

Ms Thrifty, never heard of such a thing but they sound like a must have! Will hunt them down.

Well safe journey everyone and keep warm whilst be easy on the gas ;)

b*ght a pair of wild leather boots in BHS before Christmas. At the first rain in Germany, they gave me wet feet. Utter waste of money. Now I have b*ght a pair of smooth leather street shoes in Germany and they are great.
