canadian_turtle wrote:Saw Bodyguard the Musical last night thanks to a competition win, which sadly was a bit of a letdown. I really didn't enjoy the majority of the first half which was boring and I felt very disengaged to the characters. The last 15 minutes or so were enjoyable though and there was a lot more to like in the second half (both in terms of solid musical numbers, comic scenes and some much needed tension).
However, overall the show really lacked character development (the big romance the audience is supposed to go crazy for is non-existent) and the music is not catchy or theatrical enough for a musical setting. It certainly doesn't deserve to be likened to Ghost the musical (a fellow film adaptation), which manages to properly depict the epic love story.
Also taking away from the enjoyment was the person in front of me leaving over the whole gorram time (and we were in the back row of the dress circle so the view wasn't ideal anyway. Not bad actually, but having gotten so used to getting top price seats at most shows I've seen this year it was an adjustment) and people going in and out of their seats (this includes a slew of latecomers) all throughout the show. Very disruptive.
Not sure on rating. Want to give it a 6 but it was slightly better than other shows I've seen this year that I gave a similar rating (Thriller Live, Soul Sister), might have to downgrade all the ratings now...
Having said that, if you've seen the movie, so can fill in the missing blanks that lead to the romance and/or love Whitney Houston music you'll likely enjoy it more than I have!
I loved it, c_t!! Saw it tonight with my Sister and two family members. All girls. All love a bit of Whitters!! They got a standing ovation and we all stayed up and danced at the end!! A lovely night out had by all!!

I saw Book of Mormon last night and have to say it was brilliant and is now my new "favourite show in the West End". It's funny from start to finish with lots of "omg did they really just say that" moments. I will definitely be going again.
If you like South Park style humour you will love this.

Thank You, greece, for posting the Code for Boeing Boeing at Croydon. I went tonight and it was non-stop laughing throughout! I thought it might have been a bit lame. I think the play itself is quite old. And the storyline was a typical British farce. But it was really, really good!!
Boogie Nights was showing as well at Croydon tonight. I got there early and was in the line for a bowl of chips(!) when Shane Ritchie Jnr got in line behind me! I didn't talk to him, he was busy signing the tee shirts of two fans! But I spoke to his mate, mainly about Shane's Mum, Colleen Nolan, as I really like her!!

Yes I have. There is no shelter from the rain in the yard and the performance goes on regardless of the weather.greece wrote:I wont tickets to see Romeo and Juliet @the Globe for this thursday but there is one thing: they are STANDING TICKETS in the YARD, and I just check the weather report and apparently it will be raining... has anyone been there before?

Don't let a bit of rain put you off. I got soaked to the skin at the open air theatre in Regents Park but still enjoyed the performance. I think they sell rain capes at the Globe.greece wrote:Thanks for the info Bevvy, I so feel like not going anymore...bevvy wrote:Yes I have. Standing in the yard is meant to be the most fun place to watch from and the benches are very uncomfortable anyway.
