"Managed to"? I always avoid front row at comedy gigs!

One of my friends sat on the front row against my advice once - and was hauled up on stage to dance. Has not lived that one down. :giggle:

I was lucky enough to see The Winslow Boy yesterday. Dress circle did not seem busy, but stalls were pleasingly very full.

Like Uncle Vanya at The Vaudeville, very little height is used, so IMHO, not worth seeing from the circle or worse yet, the gods. The stalls reach the very front of the stage - several rows were taken out for Democracy, but here as many as possible are packed in.

Someone took a picture in the first act (seriously, where have all the ushers gone?) but apart from that, the audience were fairly well behaved.

Given the plot, it could have been a lot drier, but thankfully was very well acted and with plenty of humour. Worth seeing if you can get tickets. The Old Vic is always a delight.

Today I failed at day seating two shows (I've never failed at day seating before!) and we didn't manage to get Book of Mormon lottery tickets as a last resort either. Bit sad now :(

(During one of our many theatre visits this morning we did see one of the Loserville boys is now Front of House at another theatre, awww...)

That's a shame, c_t - hope you eventually got to see something, so that the time wasn't wasted. I don't often have the chance to day-seat as I like to plan ahead to fit in as much as possible; also, because day-seating means arriving early, I can only do that at weekends when fares are cheap all day. As for the BoM lottery, well, I only "won" on my second attempt because I piggy-backed on someone else's entry.

If I do plan to try for a day seat, I always have a back-up plan or several, as you probably did. Mine is usually a film or two with performances starting around the time of the play I'd hoped to see. But on a really good day it's possible to bag a day seat for a matinee (or evening) and then go off to see a film first.

Think I will have to consider whereabouts here to post about theatre tickets I have which aren't free but which I can't use. (For instance, I have one for Longing, which had sold out for weeks before even previews started. I know the theatre won't try to re-sell until the day, which is a nonsense if the whole point is that you can no longer get there on the day in question. And then they deduct a fee, so you are still out of pocket.) Not for Bargain Board as it's not a bargain price and it's not a swap request either... any suggestions, please, anyone, or maybe, reasonably enough, it's just not appropriate anywhere on FMUK?

Yeah, the venue wasn't sloped, so we were worried about not being able to see anything because we are both quite short..

Haha, thats so unlucky, poor him. We thankfully didn't get called up.. which is lucky because I think I'd have died from embarassment if he'd hae dragged me up 8O

Daughter and son just returned home as The Winslow Boy at The Old Vic was cancelled tonight as two of the cast were ill--Henry Goodman and one other cast member were sick and the understudy was for both roles so it proved impossible. They were given tickets for Thursday (I am quite amazed as they certainly did not have to compensate anyone with free tickets) as well as a free drink. Husband and I are scheduled to go tomorrow so wonder what is in store for us.

They said at the Old Vic that Henry Goodman had said he would be back tomorrow but they were unsure. Perhaps you can phone to check beforehand? I was rebooked for Wednesday when they said it should be fine but I think I will still check anyway.

Thanks for that tarantinoed. It's not much of a journey for us thankfully and I guess it might be necessary to show up so that we can get other tickets if need be.

So annoyed I didn't think they would rebook us so my friend and I left! I guess I'll re-add my name to the wanted queue and hope I get lucky!
