So you are getting into the Xmas spirit annabrett with those brussel sprouts!!! I love sprouts but my husband hates them.

It doesn't have to be! To me Christmas is curling up on the couch under a fleece blanket with a book and Christmas music in the background or watching and old Christmas movie on TV with my family or play boardgames together.

I used to really enjoy Xmas when my two daughters were small and believed in Santa but now it is all getting a bit too commercialised and I absolutely hate p*ying good money for Xmas presents only to find that they are half price on Boxing Day - a real rip off!!!!

My two youngest grandchildren are still Santa believers - or at least they say they are!!! - but although I enjoy seeing them at Xmas they all get far too much throughout the year and not just for special times like Xmas and Birthdays!!! Yes I know humbug!! But I don't think they appreciate things the same as we did when we were small and they expect too much. I shudder at the prices my daughters p*y for some of the things that are on their list for Xmas.

Have got my Xmas (and New Year) shifts, b*ght my presents, given others suggestions for my own (at their request, I hasten to add) and am now looking forward to not one but two trips to Xmas markets. So all done here!

That sounds lovely. I don’t like the capitalist aspect of Christmas, i.e. enforced present and card lists, plus the outright frightening Secret Santa at work, or having to visit everyone in the family just because it’s tradition. So we are doing away with it this year and will stick to the Christmas tree and a cosy Christmas at home, where books, blankets, TV and tea will play a prominent role. And some nice food from M&S or thereabouts.

Exactly what Christmas should be like - sounds fab! Can I recommend Josh Groban's - "Noel" to play in the background? I think his voice sounds so lovely and relaxing, suitable to the few lazy days spend with family and/or friends. (though my mother always puts on her Silent Night tapes, meaning we'll hear the song come by 50+ times sung by various artists in Dutch, German, Spanish and English )
