Some tragic news has hit today as Deadline reports that director David R. Ellis has passed away at age 60. The cause of death is currently unknown, but Ellis was said to have been on-location in Johannesburg, South Africa prepping what was to be his next feature film, an adaptation of the Japanese OVA Kite with Samuel L. Jackson attached to star.

Ellis, who was born and raised in Hollywood, California, began his career as an actor and stuntman, eventually moving to directing with his debut feature, Homeward Bound II: Lost in San Francisco. From there, Ellis went on to make a name for himself in the thriller genre with films like Final Destination 2, The Final Destination, Cellular, Shark Night, Asylum and, also with Jackson, Snakes on a Plane.

Ellis is survived by his wife, Cindy, and their daughter, Tawny.

Sophiya Haque. Only saw her recently in Privates on Parade.

'Actress Sophiya Haque, who had been performing in the West End production of Privates on Parade, has died in London at the age of 41.

Haque, who also appeared in Coronation Street, was diagnosed with cancer before Christmas.

She was suffering from pneumonia and is understood to have developed a clot on her lungs.

Michael Grandage, who directed Privates on Parade, said he and her fellow cast members were "devastated".

"She was a true force of nature and her glorious performance as Sylvia in Privates on Parade is one that will be remembered with great joy," said a statement issued by the Michael Grandage Company on Twitter.

"A spirited lady, she lived life to the full, and her presence in the theatre will be sorely missed. The company would like to dedicate the remaining performances to her memory."

wasnt keen on the man but he had an eclectic bunch of interests some of which made him sound likeable. But them films...generally well cruddy. He did give us the rather good 'The Mechanic' so he wasnt a complete waste as a filmaker. RIP, still grinning I bet..
