Thanks for that ClareBarr, and well done for maintainingClareBarr wrote:Well done Preston1990 & Diane65 for your weight loss today. Reading about all your activities over the weekend tires me out just reading it :) what fab exercise you've both done.
Not been up long, just weighed myself & I've managed to maintain...no loss, but no gain either so I'm fairly pleased with that. It's very difficult to diet when my body clock is up the spout!
Sometimes when you are not feeling great, that in itself is quite an achievement!! I'm really liking your food choices

Re: Weight Watchers
Morning everyone!
I could see that a few eyebrows were raised in Waitrose yesterday when I called in for a well-earned free coffee ("americano"
"black" to you and me
) on the way back from the tip.
I was absolutely soaked in sweat, having minutes previously just hoisted several large bags of garden waste over the side of a high skip. Of course my hands were filthy too and I was wearing really dirty and torn gardening clothes and old shoes. I never really thought about it at the time, but with hindsight its obvious that I must have looked like some old tramp who had wandered in off the street.
The staff were pleasant and polite, as always, to give them their due, but I could tell that some other customers were less than impressed. For the first time in many a year, I felt strangely self-conscious which is quite unusual for me at my age, and made a quick mental note never to do that again.

One good thing to come out of the visit though, was a free recipe card which I picked up for what they are calling "Spicy Wholegrain Bowl". I haven't made it yet but I think it looks fantastic, healthy and pretty easy to do (once you source the quinoa and rice) Here's a pic and the actual recipe and nutrition details which I've lifted from their website.

Spicy wholegrain bowl with tomato & avocado
This recipe couldn’t be simpler and makes a healthy choice for lunch or dinner as it's low in saturated fat and gives you 2 of your 5-a-day.
Preparation time: 10 minutes
Cooking time: 10 minutes
Total time: 20 minutes
Serves: 2
Ingredients
½ tbsp olive oil
1 medium free range egg, beaten
240g pouch Seeds Of Change Organic Quinoa
& Wholegrain Rice
400g can essential Waitrose Chickpeas, drained and rinsed
2 tomatoes, roughly chopped
1–2 tsp harissa paste
1 ripe baby avocado, skinned and diced
2 salad onions, chopped
Juice of ½ lime
2 tbsp coriander leaves
Method
1. Heat a splash of oil in a large frying pan. Add the egg and cook for a minute, scrambling until set. Tip out onto a plate.
2. Add a splash more oil to the pan and stir-fry the quinoa and rice mix, chickpeas, tomatoes and harissa paste for 4–5 minutes until piping hot. Stir the cooked egg back in.
3. Meanwhile, roughly mash together the avocado, salad onion, lime juice and 1 tsp olive oil.
4. Divide the spicy grain and egg mixture between two bowls. Spoon the mashed avocado on top, scatter with coriander leaves and serve warm.
Nutritional Info
Typical values per serving:
Energy 1,806kJ 431kcals Fat 21g Saturated Fat 4.2g Carbohydrate 44.2g
Sugars 5.3g Protein 16.3g Salt 0.7g Fibre 10.2g
What do you think?
Anyhow that's for another day. If it looks ok when I've made it I'll post a pic of mine, to compare with Waitrose's.
Today's Menu
Breakfast: Scrambled eggs (2) on a large split toasted wholemeal bun.
Lunch: Any guesses
Evening Meal: Chicken and Cashew Nuts (out of a packet) with boiled rice (home made
)
Have fab days everyone

Re: Weight Watchers
That looks a delicious recipe, Preston1990 :)
Your story about Waitrose made me smile. It reminded me of a scene from Frasier....I can't seem to find an online link to the scene, but I googled it & it's season 6 episode 2, "Frasier's Curse" :)

Re: Weight Watchers
Will be trying that recipe here too, Preston -- thanks for sharing. As for funny looks you got in Waitrose-- did they not know you were clearing your National Trust garden for the winter sleep? Had they known about your title and estate I am sure they would have been fawning over you and offering to stir your coffee. I do know the feeling you had though as I often head off after tackling the garden and later on find I have debris in my hair, etc. Good, hard work and those Waitrose folks should have been impressed. And more gold stars for getting a free coffee -- just what was required after those hedge trims and dump excursions.
Well done to Lady Diane and Lord Preston (no longer using your numbers as I feel I know you well enough) on your weight losses recorded yesterday. And kudos to ClareBarr for maintaining her weight -- I think you should be applauded for that as it has been so difficult for you to get out and about. Little steps.... Always lovely to hear everyone's comments on here -- I missed this chat!

This made me laugh but unlike Lord Preston I don't live on an estate and unfortunately I don't have staff scurrying around while I am resting in bed.ejwrank wrote:Well done to Lady Diane and Lord Preston (no longer using your numbers as I feel I know you well enough) on your weight losses recorded yesterday. Hehehe, ClareBarr, I remember seeing that one. It's the school reunion one, where his school chum thought he was homeless when he was returning dog food to the store. A classic!ClareBarr wrote:Your story about Waitrose made me smile. Haha EJ, I can relate to that. That's me all over. Great to find a kindred spirit on here!ejwrank wrote:I do know the feeling you had though as I often head off after tackling the garden and later on find I have debris in my hair, etc.

I was supposed to start work at 9 so stayed in bed until gone 7am then got a text asking me to start earlier hence a Belvita on the run and then ended up seeing a patient at lunchtime so another Belvita on the run and tonight as it is DD birthday we went to The Alchemist and I tried to be healthy not realising what Bang Bang chicken salad was
there was a lot of peanut sauce on my chicken plus I had a Virgin Pornstar cocktail which had a lot of fruit in it so semi ok.
Seriously though, it sounds like you and DD had a great birthday celebration meal. I sneakily checked out the Alchemist's website and was impressed by both of the Manchester's Venus and the menus.
It took me a little while there, to realise that you had been having a cocktail, though. I thought you'd taken out a tv channel subscription
Today's Menu
Breakfast: porridge, skimmed milk and grapes.- 275ish kcals
Lunch: Big salad with diced cheddar cheese and chilli noodle pasta. - 575ish kcals
Evening Meal 1: Tomato Soup with basil and shareholder vegetables - 190 kcals
Evening Meal 2: Corn on the Cob with drizzle olive oil and ground black pepper.
Toast with tomato, basil leaves and oil.
Be good everyone

That's not a lot of food for a gentleman of your standing.
Menu of the day:
All bran
Ham salad sandwich with tons of tomatoes from my neighbour and a banana
As above for dinner as off to a meeting/lecture shortly. I haven't done a food shop as too busy showing off Manchester hence just eating what I have in.
Really do need to sort out the exercising stuff as I feel tons better for doing it but needs to be scheduled in as working late tomorrow then visiting OH with my mother and then off for a German meal https://www.google.co.uk/url?sa=t&rct=j ... l95VMAkEIQ on Friday more or less straight from work.

Re: Weight Watchers
It's always nice reading the posts on here, always a lot of funny banter :) I too have been naughty with the calories over the past few days, Diane! Went out today (again, after a good few days indoors)- had a coffee & cake with my boyfriend before seeing The Visit at the cinema.....it tasted yummy but even though I tried to remember the quote I saw here the other day from Preston1990 ("nothing tastes as good as skinny feels")-which I thought was a fab quote - I still gave into temptation! It's so difficult! Oh well, tomorrow's a new day :)
Does jumping at scary parts in films at the cinema burn any calories?! Oh how I wish it did....
