Yes, the quality can vary greatly. I went to a good one on Thursday, at the Waterloo Conference Centre, the food was plentiful (that's always my main criteria).

Can't think of any really good Corp function that I have been to in the past 5 years! I missed out of the only good one that was being held as I was unwell at the time :wall:
Perhaps I should change jobs lol ;) , actually no, I'd better stay put as I'm just glad that I have a job at this moment.

superhero wrote:Haven't been a great week, been busy and missed a few functions, but did go to a really spectacular venue on Wednesday, it was like walking onto the set of the Lion King. I really wasn't sure at the start, whether is was too "tacky". Yes, it certainly was over the top, but it was enjoyably over the top.
There were people walking around with giraffe heads like the ones in the Lion King, there were other dancers and costumed "actors". The food was of a surprisingly decent standard and there were various activities for the guest to do, african drumming lessons, blind wine tasting competition and more. Definitely will visit it again
Was that the Shaka Zulu showcase? I wanted to go but was on holiday. I remember the Launch Party was a bit of a shambles, so glad to see that they have improved! o/

The queue for the plated food was very long though, but then again most places wouldn't even offer plated food, just canapes. You're not off to one of the functions tonight?
I have quite alot of work to do :(

I had something on tonight but they didn't allow me to bring OH as he is "not in the business". First time that has happened to me to be honest, so I am snubbing them for being snobby. I have just now received another "no" for him for something, so I hope this isn't a new trend. With this second event I can probably exert influence though because it's the company that we hired our Christmas venue from twice so it's a bit stupid of them to mess with me!

I had that with one event last month and I think I am of the opinion, just don't invite people/send out less invites then if they have such a limited budget, otherwise why would they assume 1 person would go by themselves? It isn't what people normally do.....?
Were you looking forward to a nice cruise ;)

It's not about that I think, they would happily accept one of my colleagues instead, only that they are the last people I would want to invite. They are just being snobby about it being "industry only". I am of the opinion that I want to enjoy myself and I thought they wanted that to - so why deny me to bring the person I want to bring?
No it isn't a cruise - if you know of such an event, pray tell me!!!

I think the boat's sailed off into the sunset already! sorry....
Well I am in front of a computer working anyway!
Thats mean of them to turn your OH away so late today, were they checking business cards at the door or something draconian like that?
