Re: A Lonely Place To Die
I quite enjoyed the movie. Much better than I was expecting when I herd the plot.
The scenery was amazing. But have to agree got a bit too much the same after a while
But the story kept me on edge of the seat the whole way thro. Didn't guess what would happen next as would normally do.
I would give it a 8/10 nice suprise. And almost had me wanting to go hiking until I watched a little mote of movie.
Have to ask Was it not iris from Luther ? He looked and sounded just like him !!

You mean Stringer Bell? Wasn't him but there was a likeness.
Thought it was pretty decent.

Re: A Lonely Place To Die
Well at least you guys got to see the movie, I was at 02 Finchley Road after half an hour trying to "fix the screening with the key" Sky gave up the ghost and apologised for not being able to show the film. So we were allowed to watch whatever film we wanted, most people opted for Final Destination but I opted for One Day. Oh well.

Re: A Lonely Place To Die
The whole thing was so backwards and misjudged. It didn't seem to know where it was going, and they threw in way too many silly curveballs. I thought the opening 30 minutes or so were well executed, but it really did just spiral out of control when they entered the town. Those two had to be the most careless kidnappers I have ever seen in my life. And it sadly commits the cardinal sin. No matter how much it may try, nobody in that audience cared one hoot about the little girl. If anything she was a massive ball and chain that jammed the action dead in its tracks. My friend and I were thinking the exact same thing when we emerged from the screening - these people had no allegiance to the girl and all hell broke loose trying to protect her. And did the makers want us to think that was a happy ending for the lead woman? Ugh. It's a typically sorry British film, created by people who are trying to be a bit clever, but end up looking the fools. I loathed it. It doesn't matter how well a film is directed, or how good is it on the eye if the screenplay sucks total balls.

Re: A Lonely Place To Die
I enjoyed this but only to a certain degree. On a technical level I thought it was quite impressive, with some great shots of the Scottish Highlands and a fast pace, but on a storytelling level I wasn't impressed. The characters weren't just horribly underdeveloped but some of them were quite dislikable, so I too wasn't really rooting for them to escape. Plus the dialogue was underwhelming. I thought the first scene was brilliant but it failed to maintain its sense of terror. Especially the highly OTT climax in the Scottish town - what was that? Although there were one or two very intense scenes, I found myself a little disappointed by this one.
Another thing I noticed - in some of the tracking shots in the forest, when the camera passed a tree a "whoosh" sound was heard. I don't know if this was added in afterwards, but it certainly distracted me.
5/10

I really enjoyed this, fast and pacy and I did jump quite a few times!
I am also unsure as to why the kidnappers did not have their own guns in the beginning!
