He really did, maybe there was some CGI after all. :D

Also, forgot to say the audience was so quiet. Apart from a slight bit of acceptable bag rustling you could here a pin drop, yet when a the usual surround sound blockbuster soundtrack is blasting out I sometimes struggle to hear it due to all the munching and muttering.

Hurrah for silent movies on and off screen!

There were two subtle touches I noticed on the second viewing that I loved. One was when George finds Peppy in his dressing room. When he speaks to her there's a movie poster in the background that says "The Thief Who Stole Her Heart" (the wording my not be exact) and then when he exits the auction house the marque says "Lonely Star" as he walks down the street. Brilliantly done.
102 Different free films seen in 2010 plus 2 repeat viewings and a few tv show screenings... not too shabby. Thanks to everyone for their contributions here.

I did mention this to Valda yesterday but for all of your benefits, if you guys haven't seen "Silent Movie" (the old 1976 Mel Brooks classic) please do give it a go! It's a little dated by today's standards but still absolutely hilarious.

Also, I seem to remember a few audience giggles when the "Hollywoodland" sign appeared on screen as if this were some childish spoof.
Do your research people - that was accurate! The "land" portion was only dropped in 1949.

I saw the Lonely Star thing! Oh! You just reminded me - I was going to mention how much I liked the scene in the dressing room - when she's messing around with his jacket. Brilliant!!

Made me wonder for a minute if he was as big as I remembered or I was confusing him with John Candy...!

Now here's a movie to really talk about. In fact, I want to shout about it..

BEAUTIFUL!!! MAGNIFICO! BRILLIANT!!

Damn, I really cant do the film any justice by reviewing about it now or ever. It deserves better than my incoherent, out of breath, unfocussed ramblings. What it demands is the very best written reviews which I hope KK, Sf, David and Weirdy are making their very best efforts on.

I want to read about how hypnotic the actress was, her beauty, her tenacity.

I want to read you guys talk about the stirring soundtrack that pays homage to the composers of silent movies and the huge nod to Bernard Hermann who composed most Hitchcock films.

I also want to hear you talk about the main star who epitomises everything about a silent movie star, fusing the rhythmic flow (and looks) of Gene Kelly's silent movie star character in Singing in the Rain, the tragi-comedy of Chaplin, the suave romantic gestures of Rudolph Valentino and the dashing adventurer of Douglas Fairbanks.

I want to hear how it was possible for a movie filmed in black and white, aspect ratio 4:3 (our current tv sets are wider), silent dialogue, and mono soundtrack to bring out the deepest inner joy out of my soul (I mean your soul) that no recent movie has done.

I want to read how beautiful you thought the noir lighting and cinematography was, the breezy romance, the narrative flow and charm the film exhibits all the way.

I want to read your research about the dog, his background, if he was taught at method acting school, who the dog slept with to get to the top etc

I want to read how you thought this was hands down the best film you've seen this year.

I know what you all want...for me to shut up. And I know what I really really want, apart from a spice girl delivered first class post. I want to see this film again. And then possibly I might think..well, its not as great as I first thought it was. But that doesnt matter, its how I feel now and right now I am overwhelmed

I will now sell my 3DTV, blu ray player, 7.1 speakers, and yamaha Amp, who needs them....no wait um...I still want to watch Star Wars blu ray on my 7.1 speakers. Then I'll sell them. No, I want to see Blade Runner after that...ok I'll keep my speakers.

But I still want to see the artist again and sorry I cant write a review but I will at least give my rating.

9.8/10 BRILLIFICENTIFUL (sorry, I had to make a new word to describe this film)

Actually it was destroyed by Timothy Dalton on a faulty jetpack, trying to escape the Rocketeer ;)
