Very true. Andrea was a poor speaker not only because she couldn't project but also because she was continuously stumbling over her own words giving unnecessarily longwinded answers.

Lovefilm never said Madonna would be there. They only said Andrea and James were doing the Q&A so I wasn't expecting her to turn up. They were full of praise for Madonna though, saying she had done 10 years of research for the film.

Another thing (of many) this film failed at doing was casting a female lead who looked too young for the part. Andrea is 30 and, even with all the make-up, I did not believe she was 40+ years old.

The film wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be, but perhaps I had really low expectations. It was a tad too long and the dicking about at Sotheby's got a bit boring, as the Wallis said 'Get a life'.

OH had wanted to see this film, not because Madonna directed it, but because he's interested in history... so when I told him about Mohammed Al Fayed he was most puzzled and said 'HUH???'...

It was nice to see C_T, Funthing and Bevvy, as I haven't seen them this year (in all 10 days of it) and nice to see Beate and ewjrank again.

Now what I want to know was what was in that huge Prada bag? As we were leaving and the actors were going in someone was carrying a humungeous Prada bag... I guess since no one has mentioned goody bags it wasn't anything for us?

Horrible movie. One of the worst I've seen in a long, long time.

My take: http://londonfilmfanatiq.com/2012/01/11/review-w-e/
102 Different free films seen in 2010 plus 2 repeat viewings and a few tv show screenings... not too shabby. Thanks to everyone for their contributions here.

Love it esp the ending.

"If Madonna must express herself, she should stick to doing so in song." :giggle:

I haven't seen it but was skeptical ever since I heard she was doing a film. Why didn't she do a course or something in the 10 years she was researching it.

That reminds me, a few of the scenes that panned out (one over a sea of open black umbrellas comes to mind) actually made me feel dizzy...

Yeah that scene made me dizzy too.

So many scenes consisted of close-up, wide shot, close-up, wide shot, close-up, wide shot and on it went...

It could've been interesting if not overused in the movie and cut much shorter. There were a few black or white cuts as well between scenes that lingered far too long.
