Handbags searched as we went in this morning and security with their red eye camera checking no one was filming.

Being more "mature" could relate to some of the comments made and it was very witty.
All the cast were excellent and will go and see this again. Didn't find it too long. Could watch a sequel to this entertaining film. 9/10 :D

funthing29 wrote:I liked the film, it was charming with nice touches of humour and a stellar cast. The film is a touch too long and does drag a bit, but it is still enjoyable. I wasn't that impressed with all the endings, which felt a bit contrived. Nevertheless there were great performances here as one would expect from such well established actors. Maggie Smith gets all the best lines and manages make an elderly racist seem sympathetic. A nice film overall, which is all the more entertaining due to the witty script and top notch acting talent.

7.5/10.

Hadn't read much about this beforehand, but was very pleasantly surprised. A really witty script, good pace and well-acted. Some bits of the ending were perhaps a little too neat, but I'm definitely recommending this to friends.

Went to see this at Braehead Glasgow this morning quite a good turnout for a Sunday morning, when we got to the cinema at 10am it was still closed they didn't actually open the shutters until 10:20am by the time we took our sheets of paper to the box office and were seated it was 10:40 the film eventually started at 11:05, moving on to the film itself it was sweet and heartwarming yes just somewhat lacking in substance i felt best use was not made of all the characters in fact i forgot about Norman for about 30 mins of the film, Judi Dench and Maggie Smith were fab as always and Bill Nighy too was very enjoyable loved Tom Wilkinsons character too but for me Dev Patel stole the show every inch of the way he was insincere and sincere in perfect balance the film seemed to go for a bit in parts in saying that it was still an entertaining film and would say go see it to anyone who hasn't had the opportunity yet!

I guess i expected more depth in terms of story from such a good quality cast 7/10

Saw this film in Wimbledon today. I was really looking forward to it - after all a film starring Dame Maggie Smith, Dame Judi Dench, Tom Wilkinson, Penelope Wilton, Bill Nighy and Celia Imrie is pretty well bound to be an enjoyable experience. I was not disappointed - in fact I absolutely loved it. The scenery, script, cinematography and acting were all superb. Plenty of comedy plus a few heart-wrenching scenes went into the plot which was then set in a crumbling hotel in the colourful location of Jaipur. I was simply entranced. I predict big things for the beautiful Tena Desae who played Dev Patel's girlfriend.

I totally wasn't expecting this film to be such a blast.
I loved all the stories coming together, the tragic, the desperate, and the truly heart warming, I think it was a great cast combo(although we could have done without the shag partner IMO)
And my god Maggie Smith.
That character needs her own ruddy film! :giggle:
"I think you can wheel yourself from here." "But youve got to take me home, why are you going?" " My wife is from Mumbai." "Well no use blamin me, your're the one who married her." :bwl:
8/10 from me o/

I thought this was a perfectly likeable and well-shot film. A bit of harmless cultural tourism that was a little predictable, with a lot of the stories playing out exactly as I expected them too.
Bill Nighy getting close with Judi Dench, one of the single male characters turning out to be gay, Maggie Smith's bigoted OAP learning to love the country and people she detests at the beginning
What it lacked in surprises however, it more than made up for with the quality of the cast and an often funny script.
Hard to pick a single performance out of these as they were all on top form and got their fair share of screen time. Did feel slightly sorry for Ronald Pickup though who disappeared from the film for over half an hour after falling to the floor and being mistakenly declared dead. Also spotted an (all too brief) appearance from Sherlock's Molly (Louise Brealey) behind a very large pair of gold earrings.

It was also very well-shot and directed, if a little too long. Not an essential watch but entertaining.

Useless film trivia: The book that Penelope Wilton's character spends the film 'not' reading is Tulip Fever by Deborah Moggach, who wrote These Foolish Things, the book on which this film is based.
