Totally agree with you KK, rude and brash but I found that there was an infectious energy running throughout and the chaotic and over the top climax was good because we needed to see some consequences for the lack of responsibility and it was nice not to have too big of a downer such as a teen death in order to make the point that although seemingly good fun, you can't behave like this (sadly, as it did look like fun!).kevinknapman wrote:I quite enjoyed this. It's not without it's faults of course. It's crude and repetitive. The characterisation is almost non-existent. I'd also point out that the female characters are all presented as simple sex objects (even the best friend) but the story is shot from the point of view of the teenage boys so this is perhaps unsurprising. The male characters don't exactly come out of this particularly well either though (Costa was a completely repugnant, though occasionally amusing, prick).
But I find it hard to deny that it has a certain rude, brash and infectious energy running throughout that builds nicely to a suitably chaotic and over the top climax. It's also often very funny and has a very effective soundtrack (I'm fine with anything that has the Yeah Yeah Yeahs and LCD Soundsystem in it). Plus as the intention was clearly to present the most epic teenage party of all time on screen then I think it succeeds pretty while in this respect.
Not particularly original, hardly subtle but surprisingly enjoyable.

loved the music, glad you found that track, I was going to look out for the soundtrack as it is upbeat

Re: Project X
Saw it tonight. I hate the found footage style, I hate Todd Philips' last few films, and I loathed that sweater vest kid, yet by 30 minutes in I was starting to chuckle/giggle, and then full out laugh. And Miles Teller, man, I don't know if that'll play well with the majority, but as a fan, watching him kinda be a faux-celeb was great.
It's forgettable, and mostly reactionary from the situations, but it was half-subtle half-insane, and surprisingly sweet. Besides the drug use, which clearly was negatively portrayed (I mean, the post-ecstasy effects are taken to a new high when stuff starts exploding), I think a 15 woulda been fine for this.
Damn fun, stupid cinema.

Cinevue review, just read this, serious loss of any sense of fun. being a girl I still found this a great film, plus I am over 21 and not a moron, asbo or uneducated. Sexist films have been with us since time began. Did Animal house cause widespread mayhem- no, did Porkys-no, did American Pie, superbad, inbetweeners or even If(60s)-no. Some writers seem to lose a sense of reality and should get a grip or maybe they have ambitions to work for one of the broadsheets.

Re: Project X
"It is possibly the worst film of the last 20 years. It’s certainly the worst comedy of the last 20 years, and is an utterly horrifying vision of Teen America. If these guys are the future, we’re all f**ked."
