quite enjoyed this, despite myself.

however, found it hard to believe terence stamp as a doddering suburban grandad, whose favorite songs were by martin or sinatra.

this is the same terence stamp who was at the epicenter of swinging sixties london & during that time, shared a "pad" with that other young ladykiller, micheal caine.

i know he was playing a part, but he is a very, very limited actor who tends to play himself (exception being the wonderful priscilla queen of the desert)

christopher eccleston nailed his performance & was excellent.

that said, mildly diverting, 5/10.

The man is 74, if he can't play a doddering grandad now, when can he!

exactly my point, should have been easy for him, but no.

even today, he would make a better Zod, than a pensioner.

ps i would swear he got less bald as the film progressed.

pps do not get me wrong, i love terence stamp, for all his limitations.

Saw this film tonight at a 75% full Cinema in Milton Keynes.

I personally thought the film died when Vanessa Redgrave's character died.

Disappointing film, which I thought was 20 minutes too long.

Enjoyed the movie and shed a few tears.

I don't dislike baby normally but there was a baby making a lot of noise during the movie in vue bristol!!!! (And they stayed until the end!)

Cineworld Cardiff was about 70% full. I did enjoy the film and was also grateful for the length of 93 minutes. Did have a few tears when the cindy lauper true colours was being sung.
A simple story, obviously for the grey pound market but still enjoyable for a cold windy monday night.

There's a song. And there's a Marion in it. Pretty much sums it up.
Definitely more hankie than pankie.
That said, it did everything it set out to and ticked all the right boxes. Some very good performances indeed and realistic enough to be believeable. My tears were surprisingly unjerked during the obvious scene, although I thought this was extremely true to life, but I could certainly feel a lump in my throat that wasn't my tongue towards the end.
Mum will love it.

i do find it odd that those people who complained (wrongly) about russell crowe's singing in les miserables, have said nothing about the truly appalling singing in this movie.

again, i like terry stamp, but he can't sing for toffee.

It was nice to start recognizing faces of my fellow movie lovers. Great to be able to chat for a bit when you go to the movies by yourself, but I have to say, glad I actually did see this by myself, as I ended up crying (and it's never pretty). Sure the story was predictable and the movie was not a masterpiece, but the story told was moving and sweet, and the characters seemed pretty real. All in all I enjoyed it and would recommend, provided the person planning to see it is not in a low mood.

And as far as singing, I do believe the point was not for them to be brilliant at it, but just to have fun.

As far as I'm aware Terence Stamp wasn't in a big budget musical or billed as a professional singer. It was a story about a wee local choir. Stop trolling Newdot it's getting old, you've made your point over numerous posts. If we all liked the same movies, had the same views about the same actors then it would be easy for the film industry to please us all but thankfully we don't. You didn't rate Terence Stamp's performance, fair enough we get the point.
