Re: The Place Beyond the Pines
Went to see this last night @ Hackney Picturehouse, although I didn't think it was as good as 'Blue Valentine' this was definitely an above average movie (IMO anyway).
Very different to how it was portrayed in the trailers which is not necessarily a bad thing but I did think that the final section of the movie focusing on the sons was a little bit weak & disappointing.
Overall though I enjoyed this a lot so it gets a 7/10 from me...

Re: The Place Beyond the Pines
Just seen this tonight.
I found it quite dark and slow film which was kinda explaining their lives.
The acting was excellent and was sad when
ryan gosling dies
and it was interesting to see the plot evolve.
Bradley was good cop/bad cop.
Fantastic acting!
7.5/10

Re: The Place Beyond the Pines
Saw this last night - no freebie screenings for us in Yorkshire. Didn't actually 'get' Blue Valentine (got completely confused at times), so was worried that I would have similar problems here.
But this was absolutely gripping - and as others have said - not what I expected from the trailer. It was long, but apart from a bit at the start of the third 'act', it raced along like an emotional roller coaster.
Well worth p*ying for. Might even p*y to see it again.

Re: The Place Beyond the Pines
Picturehouses are showing it too.
Re: The Place Beyond the Pines
I'm just back from watching this film and although sad and serious this is worth seeing. Brilliantly acted and such an interesting story - makes you think! Go and see it!
Re: The Place Beyond the Pines
Great film I can only recommend it
Re: The Place Beyond the Pines
I agree the trailer for this film was not what you expect the film to be..
It was a good film but was quite long and drawn out. I felt like there could of been 3 separate films made from this:
1) The cop and the bank robber storyline
2) The cop overturns the police corruption
3) The 2 sons meet/revenge etc
The first storyline was the most entertaining and gripping to watch. The film gradually deteriorated as it was drawn out too long I thought.
But overall it was an enjoyable film
Oh and how come no body else in the film really aged apart from Eva Mendes. Everyone else looked the same 15 years on apart from Eva Mendes who had been given grey hairs, wrinkles and all!

Women don't age well, men do.

Going to see this tonight. Very much looking forward to it.
