Re: Frances Ha
Maybe so, but in motion I thought it was absolutely disgusting, not calculated at all.
Re: Frances Ha
It would have been 'fairer' if you'd have just said I don't like this personality type so therefore can't relate to movies about it.EthanRunt wrote:I think I was fair with my assessment on this film: http://reviews.boxofficebuz.com/review/ ... vie-review

Re: Frances Ha
Enjoyed this a second time around last night. Love the music in it too.
For the sake of Razorback's calculations I'll give a rating, given up on most recent films as I've found so many films this year to be a bit meh.
8.5/10

Re: Frances Ha
But that wouldn't be right, I've been won over by films about people I don't like before, Frances Ha seems to not understand how to reach beyond its core group.D-Fens wrote:It would have been 'fairer' if you'd have just said I don't like this personality type so therefore can't relate to movies about it.EthanRunt wrote:I think I was fair with my assessment on this film: http://reviews.boxofficebuz.com/review/ ... vie-review

Re: Frances Ha
So you're acknowledging that Frances Ha is a success in that it reaches and speaks to its core audience. Maybe not a universal success, but a success to some degree at least.EthanRunt wrote:But that wouldn't be right, I've been won over by films about people I don't like before, Frances Ha seems to not understand how to reach beyond its core group.D-Fens wrote:It would have been 'fairer' if you'd have just said I don't like this personality type so therefore can't relate to movies about it.EthanRunt wrote:I think I was fair with my assessment on this film: http://reviews.boxofficebuz.com/review/ ... vie-review

I was kind of disappointed I wasn't able to score any freebies for the above, but now that I've read the feedback, I shall consider myself lucky! Ha!

Not really, it's very lazy in ticking the boxes for those folks, much like an Adam Sandler film does to Sandler fans.LondonCityNights wrote: So you're acknowledging that Frances Ha is a success in that it reaches and speaks to its core audience. Re: Frances Ha
I think that's a bit disingenuous, you could apply criticism that vague to literally any film. It's perfectly reasonable to dislike a film because you have a (probably understandable) personal beef with young, privileged urbanites, but it's dishonest to present that as objective criticism when it's obviously super-subjective.EthanRunt wrote:Not really, it's very lazy in ticking the boxes for those folks, much like an Adam Sandler film does to Sandler fans.LondonCityNights wrote: So you're acknowledging that Frances Ha is a success in that it reaches and speaks to its core audience. Re: Frances Ha
Well I rather enjoyed this the other day, it was entertaining and quirky, very funny in places, and Greta Gerwig is always fun to watch (although I still shudder when I think of Damsels in Distress!). Interesting character Frances, I feel like I've known people in the past who were exactly like her! I liked that it was in black&white, and would happily watch again, 7/10.
