All this has done is strengthen my resolve to take no notice of Film Posters and Critics.

Well having read some of the reviews I am a bit surprised. Ok it wasn't an action packed movie and there was no blood and gore.....but .....I really enjoyed it. Having Tom Hardy as the actor certainly helps as watching him for an hour and a half is not difficult. I saw it at the Edinburgh Showing and no one left and everyone seemed involved. Think it comes down to what appeals to some will not to others.

I wonder how many of the haters had read/seen the promotional material, and how many of the lovers hadn't. That would make an interesting poll. I think there is a large amout of disappointment at what turned out to be nothing like what it was portayed as.

It just shows you how different people react to the same circumstances . My wife hated every moment of the film , whereas I watched it and hung on every nuance and expression . I was completely swept up in this tour-dr-force . I was on mthe edge of the seat wondering what catastrophy was coint to present itself next !

I kind of just realised it's the London Marathon today, winding its way round Greenwich - will be interesting to attempt to get to the Picturehouse! Probably best to avoid Cutty Sark station and go one more to Greenwich itself.

How on earth can anyone think that this is a boring film? This isn't about concrete or which version of it to use, it's about a man who made one wrong decision in his life, now decides to do the honourable thing and as a result of this his entire life and possibly the building project he's been overseeing is crashing down around him. He's driving through the night, simultaneously trying to reason with his distraught wife, calm down the mother of his as yet unborn child, comfort his sons, deal with an irrate boss (tellingly labelled "Bastard" on his mobile phone screen) and motivate the miserable colleague he left in charge of the building project on the eve of the most important day for this project ever. One false move and everything will collapse - not just for the project but in his life as well. It's gripping stuff and I have no idea how he stayed so calm all the time. He had such a soothing voice, it was almost unnatural. To be honest, his voice did put me off a bit, it wasn't just calm, it also sounded weirdly accented and a bit too posh if that makes sense. I was also hoping for a proper ending, but it just petered out somehow.

Still, 8/10.

Bloody PH in Edinburgh - apparantly change the booking from Cinema 1 - 253 seats to Cinema 3 - 66 seats meaning that a large number got turned away this morning. At least a lot of the ones I saw being refused had actual tickets in hand rather than e-tickets meaning that they were Picturehouse members. Previously they have segregated SFF and PH members before allowing all the PH members in first, then refusing SFFers which I thought was deplorable.
Have tried giving feedback to SFF but there seems to be a problem with the surveymonkey feedback form - it defaults to SFF main site.

Fab review, Beate. Exactly my sentiments! I thought this was a very good film with great depth, was gripped right from the start. What a laid back person Tom Hardy's character is, when his whole world looks like crashing down on him. I agree his accent was very strong, and I really thought the ending would be very different.
The baby does not make it
What a great actor to carry off the whole film, that Tom Hardy is. So emotional too, especially when he listens to his young son leaving him a message while under his duvet cover, that was so sad and beautiful at the same time. And I thought I recognised Olivia Coleman's voice. And the right length! Fab.
8/10

btw, read no reviews and saw no trailers before the film, but just caught up reading this thread and wow, what a divided film this is, had no idea! :P
