I had this funny feeling it would be a press screening and in in the big screen 1 and I was right! They probably just dished out a few tickets via SFF, hoping to get the target group in as well, although I couldn't see anyone who looked remotely 12 years old! I gave a set of tickets to weirdfilms33 who is apparently 14 so I have actually helped them out with their target group so not remotely ashamed about crashing a press screening - hey they sent out a code, and it's not like it was 100% full - I had an empty seat next to me AND in front of me! We were sat in the back row as usual, joined by phunkygal a while later who is accredited press these days. Every seat had some popcorn on it but no water, and they were handing out some press packs from what I saw.

There were hacks bringing in their laptops, the OH got properly annoyed about it, but they packed them away once the screening started (well one of them had to be forced by security but rightly so!)

The film is basically a comic strip come to life, with all the "Whoop" and "Bang" sounds visible on the screen. It also looked like a video game at times. For someone like AYBG this is probably heaven, I found it boring and pointless. The story was silly and Michael Cera has no screen presence. The only thing I was looking forward to was his girlfriend's changing hair colour. I liked the green best, it looked fetching. The seven evil exes were disgusting looking, and the ways to take them out were properly weird - one was arrested by the vegan police for violating the vegan eating rules?

Anyways, 5/10 is about right I think.

Bother - this would have been my first preview since City Island a whole month earlier, but it really doesn't sound like my sort of thing. Did anyone else go to the same screening as Beate?

Well it gives it 4 stars but it's quite right here too:
Unfortunately, this brilliant coin-op arcade referencing extends to the lack of story. The first time ‘DING DONG’ appears when the doorbell goes, it’s pretty cool. But the effect wears off.

A little too repetitive, a little too long, Scott Pilgrim often feels like a jumble of nudges and winks, from the Mortal Kombat-style final opponent to the green ray that defeats an actor who once played Superman.

At times it feels more exhausting than breathless. Witty and buzzy and clever for sure, but needing more emotional whallop. Scott’s health-bar never really flashes red – even when he dies, you know he can always try again.

Thanks for all the review links/quotations, guys; these have served to confirm that whilst some people will love it, Scott Pilgrim would probably give me a headache and as I get too many of those already, I shall give it a miss.

Actually, I think it's simply the best decision I can make on the available info. But give me some credit: not only did I see Kick-Ass but it's still my top film of 2010 so far, and it wasn't aimed at me or the type of film I usually like.
