Re: The King's Speech
Well, I had a minor problem at my screening. At Wimbledon, the film ran for about half a minute before it suddenly cut out; we waited about 10 minutes and it started again, however. Not too much trouble.
I thought The King's Speech was a perfect example of why British cinema can be very underrated. Sure, we produce our fair share of unrealistic gangster movies with horrible cockney accents (will the real Layer Cake please stand up?) but every once in a while we produce a touching, wonderfully shot film. This is it. Colin Firth gives probably the greatest performance of his career and the script is fantastic. I'm no film reviewer, but I won't hesitate in giving it 10/10. A worthy Oscar contender.

Re: The King's Speech
this is a wonderful film. it has such a basic premise (trying to get the king to stop stuttering) but is excellently acted and quite gripping. it is well written and surprisingly funny. i really enjoyed it and look forward to seeing it again. when i first heard 'period drama with everyman appeal my heart sank a little. but it is fantastic. a full 10/10 from me as i couldn't fault it.

He felt really bad and when I told him of the fiasco I ad had at the Omni when I turned up for Unstoppable and was told it was not on and was sent away, he thought they should have done something as I had turned up in good faith.
Never heard back from SFF despite email and reminder about that.
Hope another code comes up and you can see The Kings Speech - I will use my free tickets and go later.
Oh dear I was offered Unstoppable, The Tourist or the Manager then said we could have two free tickets valid to 31/1/2011 to use at any Odeon screening, not a new release tho!Asked if we could see any other film instead and was only offered Due Date which we had seen!! Apology given by the femlae member of staff who took our names and email addresses for them to get in touch with us - will see if that brings any joy!!

I cannot blieve that they offered you Due Date rather than King's Speech.....marjoreemarjora wrote:Oh dear I was offered Unstoppable, The Tourist or the Manager then said we could have two free tickets valid to 31/1/2011 to use at any Odeon screening, not a new release tho!

Re: The King's Speech
Well, this has Oscar written all over it - mainly because the audience and jury love real-life triumph over adversity stories. I liked it very much, and Colin Firth was marvellous, as was Geoffrey Rush, but all in all I thought the story was a teensy predictive, although funny, warm and well-acted, with the snotty Archbishop of Canterbury being put in his place by our Bertie, he he. Guy Pearce's awfulleh posh Queen's accent was spot on, considering he is Australian. Timothy Spall so wasn't Winston Churchill though! And another niggle: Guy Pearce played the older brother but is 7 years younger than Colin Firth and looks it.

Re: The King's Speech
The best film of the year absolutely fantastic, it certainly lives up to the hype. Colin Firth was brilliant as George V1 with an Oscar winning performance with the difficulty's he encountered with his stammer and the relationship he had with his family, no wonder Elizabeth had no time for Edward V111 and his behaviour towards his brother. Helena Bonham Carter came across as a lovely warm lady as Elizabeth, all the cast were superb in portraying the personalities of the characters. The final scenes looked like they were actually filmed within The White Room at Buckingham Palace (I'm sure it wasn't), the attention to detail was impeccable. I envy you all who are going to watch this tomorrow you are in for a wonderful night out.

Re: The King's Speech
Helena Bonham Carter played Queen Elizabeth but Elizabeth I is a different queen altogether! And Elizabeth II was her daughter, hence her later title of Queen Mother.

Roman Numerals: Try a capital i for a Roman 1.
