Re: True Grit
Saw a lot of FMUKkers tonight. We were there very early at 6.15pm and they already let us in! I somehow ended up a row lower than usual without even noticing and randomly saved 3 seats as I thought that's all I can do without getting into trouble with other folks. Ejwrank, bevvy, valda and tomorrow72 then managed to all end up in the same row, and we kept a_person a seat at the beginning of the row as she told me she might be late. She made it with 5 minutes to spare. Prettyxcool and SunnySaver were also there and went to the back row, and a lot of exchanging of gifts suddenly took place, with bevvy trying to stretch across two rows at one point, LOL.
The cinema got about 100% full I would say and we loved the film. I have never seen the original but this one is a corker. Jeff Bridges is absolutely excellent, if slightly unintelligible at first with his thick Southern accent. The girl who played Mattie was brilliant too, a mixture of toughness and vulnerability. Josh Brolin and Matt Damon did superb supporting roles. A few scenes were a bit bloody and made me jump but all in all it was thorough entertainment.
"If they wanted a decent burial they should have gotten themselves killed in summer."
8.5/10
Btw, when did the female loo at the Apollo Piccadilly Circus acquire a TV screen built into the mirrors? I watched an entire Morning Glory advert while waiting for a cubicle, LOL.

Re: True Grit
After picking up a copy of Mathieu Kassovitz's "La Haine" I needed for school in HMV, I arrived at the cinema. Had been to the same screen before to see "Unstoppable", and liked it very much.
Anyway, I thought the film was excellent, full of rich characterisations and dialogue. As much trouble as I had interpreting some Jeff Bridge's "authentic" accent, it flowed at a reasonably consistent pace and settled for more story rather than full-out action. Of all the supporting cast, the real star here is newcomer Hailee Steinfeld (scarcely four months younger than myself) who gives a quite extraordinary performance in the role of Mattie Ross. This is one of the Coen brothers' best work in recent years.
Sadly didn't get to say hi to Valda as I had hoped. I did, however, see a large group of people about three rows from the back, on the right, whom I was dead certain were FMUKkers. I had great difficulty whilst staring at all of you trying to match each person to their respective username.
I think I might have identified Beate, but that was it. If you would all please wear very large name tags and come up with some kind of collective FMUK chant to lead me to your vicinity in the future, it would be much appreciated.
I'm remembering your faces for next time round. Be warned.

Member number 33 of the "100 free films in 2012" club. I saw 32, which is rather delightful.. I beat Mr. Glass on free films but he narrowly inched me out on total films seen.
Member number 33 of the "100 free films in 2011" club. I saw 20, interestingly enough. My more realistic target was to see more free films than TheyCallMeMrGlass. I lost.

As for the film I loved it. I've got the original on my Sky+ to watch now, but I can't see it bettering this one. The Dude V The Duke
The cinemtography was beautiful, especially the snowy scenes. So many odd touches, 'Bear' Man, the oddball doing animal noises. The kids getting kicked around. Rooster was so funny drunk, but still dangerous. Le Beef, so vain and bragging about Texas Rangers. That still happens to this day btw. I'm so glad I saw it in a lovely comfortable quite cinema 9/10
