Several posts on FF today, not had a single alert, marked topics read countless times today and still no alerts.

Marking topics read isn't likely to solve the site end problem. FFs current system is overloaded so nothing we users can do.

Well - I'm getting emails from SFF asking for feedback as well as email reminder for same film - 6 days late! Not a whole lot of use considering film was last week! No delays in any other emails.

Those aren't fmuk issues though. This thread is about not receiving FF alerts. A simple function that managed to work back in 2007 when we first started fmuk has stopped working g for a group of us.

I'm really sorry, elski that you continue not to receive FF alerts especially as you contribute so much to FMUK. I would be happy to forward the ones that I get to you and I know that others would too (steve9872 may already have a system to do this-- I'm not sure). Then at least you would receive a portion of the alerts. Of course it would mean sharing your email with a bunch of us if you are willing to. Let me know if I can help at least a little bit.

Thanks, Steve had already offered. I'm OK for tickets myself. I just want the system fixed for myself and others (I've noticed a few regulars have now given up with fmuk due to lack of alerts) It must be possible if it worked 9 years ago! I don't see why we should resort to work arounds.

I think it is possible, the forum is overloaded with subscriptions so the system capacity needs to be increased, so it can work as it once used to.

I simply don't get any alerts, ever now.

AYBG is doing this site out of the goodness of his heart. Its based on the principle that everything is free if you know where to look. Trouble is free stuff comes with limits and strings attached.
With us those limits are mainly felt in the email system which is capped at around 500 per hour.
Any FF alert exceeds that in a single posting by typically a factor of three.
There are 2 possible cures
1) Restrict the number of alerts that go out - I believe that 8 per minute would get through the list in 3 hours and everyone will get an alert. Late but you'll get it. Not much use when tickets go very quickly, I wouldn't want to be at the end of the alert queue.
2) Change the email service to one that would cope with a 2,000 emails at once alert service. Trouble with that is such a service costs, a lot. At a rough estimate a £10 per year subscription charge would have to be pa*d by every member, yes it does cost thousands to run such a service. Although a core group of members would be willing to p*y that, the vast majority wouldn't and would leave in droves. Interestingly that would solve your problem as its the number of people subscribed to FF that causes the problem in the first place.

If it was just £1 a year we'd probably get it back to reasonable numbers and I'd happily p*y.

And I am grateful for everything that AYBG does and has done but if we don't voice a problem then nothing would ever get resolved.
