oh no! it's lucky I can see it again next week to catch that. Hopefully that one won't have two inconsiderate girls on the front row loudly laughing, talking and burping through the film and then getting up to go to the loo together as if they're in a night club, they really spoiled so of the most tense moments for me.

I thought it was great, 'production values!' 8.5/10

It was about 65% full with the virgin girl greetings us and saying goodbye in the foyer at the end. Since sky and virgin have employed these representatives I wish they'd come into the screening and police the annoying people. :shifty:

oh and free popcorn! a novelty for us northerners that never got it at sky screenings o/

Hm. I feel left out now - was Greenwich the only cinema without free popcorn? I shall complain.

I still don't know what those weird Rubic cubes were for,
It explains in the footage they find in the 'dungeon' that it was a new shapeshifting alloy(alien technology) which they were trying to replicate for human resources, and so retained it, and by doing so prevented the alien being to leave, as he couldnt rebuild his ship, but we see him successfully rebuild it at the end, with the cubes o/
I thought this was amazing, silly nonsense, but for some reason a great story, the film making, the time period, I felt it was a blast from Spielberg's past, good ole cameras, good ole models, and good ole bad movies :) Loved the alien, but felt its face was a bit too similar to cloverfield for my liking(it is the same guy designing).
Sort of reminded me of ET, but a more harsher and realistic turn of events.

9/10 from me and the bf!
Loved the finished footage at the end :)

Yep free popcorn for us lucky people - I wonder why O2 doesn't seem to do it anymore? I got there about 6, had a chat with Soonforgotten and then KingofSwords and his mates came - they were coming in on my ticket. When i got in there I found Canadian_turtle on her own so I sat with her, Wierdy was a couple of rows in front with his mates.

I was pleasantly pleased that this film was good, and not just ticking the Spielberg boxes. children, bikes, 'burbs', aliens.
I've never seen The Goonies (please dont tell me to either) But I guess this is a cross between Goonies, Stand By Me, ET, Close Encounters and a bit of Lost thrown in for good measure.
There were some great performances by the children and the cast, non of whom I recognized. Lots of tension, bangs crashes, something in the bushes etc. Actually that reminded me a bit of Monsters and a bit of Lost, but a childs version.
7/10

Lee Valley was about 75% full and we had a choice between sweet and salt popcorn.

I don't even know what to think of this film. It wasn't bad but neither was I blown away by it. On paper it has everything a film needs: excellent special effects, decent child actors, sufficient comedic moments, and a decent blend of human story and sci-fi plot but left no impression on me. This felt very authentic with the costumes and I enjoyed the tongue in cheek references to modern technology. Easily forgettable. 6/10.

Oh I recognised the Dad alright but couldn't place him for the longest time. It's Kyle Chandler, he's been in a few movies but I most remember him from some strange TV series called Early Edition.

Great film! They must have spent a few quid on the sets and the effects. Loved the video at the end too.

I recognised him from Grey's Anatomy.

Did anyone else think it seemed strange
when they were in the cave at the end, that Alice and the other kidnapped victims seemed fine despite being hanging upside down for what must have been hours?
Only Salted popcorn for us.

Re ET, I remember going to the 20th Anniversary premier of ET and noticed all the things that had been changed in those PC days of 2002. Policemans guns digitally removed and replaced with walkie talkies
