[spoiler]Maud wasn't dead - she was the school matron, although she took the same poison that she gave to the girl. She wanted both of them to be together with her son Tom. I hadn't even considered that Robert could have been dead, although he seemed to interact with the staff and pupils of the school.[/spoiler]

[spoiler]Major glitch! Robert said "there is only the 3 of us" when Florence enquire about her near rape experience... that would be Robert+Florence+Maud OR the weird guy... one of them is a ghost [/spoiler]

[spoiler]Ha. I did notice this discrepancy on both viewings. I just presumed he wasn't including Judd the caretaker. He said that he had his own ghosts from WW1. Maybe he was dead himself![/spoiler]

[spoiler]Ambiguity? The Headmaster certainly ignored her presence and even commented to someone that she must have been mentally unwell. And how could Tom have given her the antidote since he was a ghost.[/spoiler]
