Watched at Didsbury last night and I totally agree with soonforgotten - I had low expectations due to the title and due to the fact that most films trying to be like the hangover are truely awful. However I was pleasantly suprised due to the fact it didn't take itself seriously at all. It knew the premise was ridiculous (Nick's quote & stare into the camera cracked me up!) and it truely played up to it. I agree that it was hit and miss in parts but there were still a few places that made me laugh out loud and that to me means it is worth seeing. The really crude bathroom scene when Nick and Lou had lost the bet really made me laugh - even though I knew it was crude and rude! 7/10 from me!soonforgotten wrote:My favourite part was when Nick says how it "must be some kind of... Hot tub time machine" and stares dead eyed at the camera. That cracked me up. Good to know they were treating this as ridiculous as it really was.

Much better than I was expecting! If I had not received tickets to see it, I probably would have waited for it to be on DVD or TV but now I'm recommending that people p*y to see it (if that makes sense!).
I'd give it a 7/10.

Re: Hot tub time machine
Saw this at Finchley Road Vue last night after -finally- bagging TimeOut tickets. So nice to have a ten minute walk to the cinema, and great to emerge when it's still light.
I hadn't seen the trailer, so the best bits weren't spoilt, but I knew it was going to be daft and silly. Actually, it was cleverer than I expected. I liked the teasing with the bellboy's arm, and I enjoyed the knowing references.
I was looking forward to Wedding Singer-ish 80s revelry, but I actually thought they played down the 80s nostalgia. There could have been a lot more recognisable music, fashion and gadgets. I think it was actually better for this. My OH is ten years younger than me and didn't recognise a lot of it already, so if there had been much more, the filmmakers would have been losing a lot of the audience.
I always enjoy watching John Cusack, but I thought the other actors were good too (Nick's phone call provided me with the best laugh)
It was pretty crude and blokey, but do you know what....I enjoyed that! The cinema was pretty much full, and there was a good jovial atmosphere. I think most people enjoyed it.

Re: Hot tub time machine
Ilford was about 60% or so full last night. I wish that cinema would come up more as it is quite spacious and comfortable.
I had very low expectations so it was better than I thought it might be. I totally agree that the jokes were very hit and miss, sometimes v.funny other times it was just so far off the mark. I agree with Beate that I also liked the bit when dawned on them that they were back in the 80s - "dude is rocking a cassette player" lol! I think I appreciated this as I still have some cassettes (and they are regularly used, oh the shame).
There were a lot of latecomers to the cinema (wonder if they thought there would be trailers) and I think I noticed 4 or 5 girls walk out half way through (I wonder if they were 'screen jumping' to try and catch different films on one ticket - cineworlds are particularly suited for this as they tend to have details of films showing above the screen door).
Not my favourite film but not a complete waste of time. 6.5/10.

Re: Hot tub time machine
Saw this at Boldon last night and it was packed to the rafters with a few people who were unable to get seats forlornly walking out (taking their 20ft hot dog in a 6" bun - weird!) with them. I took the two teenage sadsacks to this and they were delighted, the audience loved it and there were laughs a plenty so I think the atmosphere plus the "cool mam-points" I bagged made this a more pleasurable experience than it would have been with a less receptive audience. I think this is definately aimed at the late teen male market which is a shame cos a lot of the 80's references went straight over my boys heads - (which to be honest I'm a tad disappointed at cos I've done my very best to raise them fully conversed in the might and power of Poison and cock rock) There were some really gagging moments, such as the soap-face and squirrel episodes, but all in all good stupid, gross, OTT fun. 7.5/10 from the Spanner clan.

Re: Hot tub time machine
I got an e-mail today from STV to say i'd won tickets to see this this evening. I saw it last night on a SFF ticket but had enjoyed it a lot so thought I'd go and see it again.
It was just as funny the second time, I really enjoyed it. We got goody bags of a swim bag, poster, bottle opener, and sme other bits and pieces so glad I went!

I really wasn't sure what to make of this, some bits I thought were really funny, other bits I thought were crude and pointless! I loved The Hangover, but I thought this was nowhere near as good.
5/10.
