2nd viewing - i tried to remove myself from the original, and on that basis its not bad film. the beginning can put you off, being so slow paced and full of dull kids talking the ultra slow dumb way that adults think they talk like. after that its not a bad film.
the real problem is casting a cute nervous loookig girl for abby. in the original, the girl who played abby really felt like she was 100 years old. (eat your shorts, ed cullen!), whereas chloe moretz never exhibits that feeling of matter-of-fact confidence., she instead plays abby AS a 12 year old. which isnt the same thing at all.
the other big difference is that its set in america, and thats nowhere near the ethereal setting of snowy 80s sweden, a complete unknown for nearly everyone watching... that felt like it could have been near the edge of the world. the 80s america setting makes you think donnie darko instead. this feels more jap-horror, like its in your neighbourhood in the block next door. different, very.

Re: Let Me In
I thouroughly agree with you about the stillted dialogue at the begining of this film. I too watched for a second time. I couldn't quite put my finger on what was wrong with this forced way of speaking (similar in The Social Network) but it never seems realistic - more like actors reading lines from a page instead of real life.raj101 wrote:2nd viewing - i tried to remove myself from the original, and on that basis its not bad film. the beginning can put you off, being so slow paced and full of dull kids talking the ultra slow dumb way that adults think they talk like. after that its not a bad film.

I also agree that there is something majorly missing that was present in the original. I think you hit it on the head - the location not being snowy Sweden. Equally snowy New Mexico (why New Mexico at all?) didn't quite gel with me either.
I struggled also to get past Cloe Moretz as her character in Kick Ass! Kept expecting her to say c*** again. Lol. (So wrong from a 12 year old girl. Truly shocking but hilarious as well)
