It was hard not to think - do I really need to see another boxing movie, but so glad I did. Apart from the last ten minutes or so, which got a bit Hollywoody, it was as much about boxing as The Wrestler was about wrestling.

I thought it was excellent, dramatic, absorbing and funny as well. The two brothers, the mum and Amy Adams were fantastic, as were the multiple sisters - I think their hairdos should get a best supporting actor nod at the very least!!

Bale's fall from grace and the family dynamic are what the story is all about, so don't be put off if you, like me, don't really care for boxing. Apart from it being a true story, boxing is one of the movies favourite metaphors for lost chances, regret, redemption etc

Interesting that it's getting mixed reviews on here, but I loved it and a real surprise.

My film of the year so far. (Saw The Kings Speech last year) 9/10

I absolutelty loved this. I'm totally blown away by Bale's performance and dedication to the role. If he doesn't get an Oscar for it that should be a crime. I thought Amy Adams was fantastic, as well. Melissa Leo was incredible in her role of that awful woman. I thought Wahlberg played his role well and was a lot more understated than characters he usually plays.

Generally, I do enjoy boxing movies, more so than boxing itself, really but this is definitely much more than that and is just superb. It has a very real feel to it and does not feel Hollywood glossy at all. The fights were shot in a pretty straightforward fashion, but that fits the feel of the film. I'd definitely see this again and was disappointed to receive my slew of rejection emails from Grolsh afterwards. 9.5/10 from me and I'll be rooting for Bale come Oscar night.

The Fighter

Having been brought up with a dad who loved Muhammad Ali and consequently had us watching the boxing, I loved this film and felt for the the main character (Micky Ward - Mark Wahlberg). Although the pace was variable during the film, I was particularly drawn in by the fight scenes at the end. Christian Bale and Amy Adams performances were particularly notable.Overall an excellent film that I would watch again.

What a brilliant film. I was not sure what to expect and thought I might not enjoy the boxing too much. The characters were well acted and entertaining - like other correspondents we were hugely entertained by the sisters and their mother. Well worth seeing.

I went to watch it last thursday thanks to prettyxcool. Not the stereotipical boxing movie since here the main part is in the dynamics of the family rather than building a fable around a boxing champ (that still takes up in the last quarter of the movie). Bale is absolutly outstanding in his role especially having seen the footage with the real actors at the end of the movie and some videos on youtube when I got home. So is Mum whilst Whalberg is ok and sometime a bit inexpressive. Overall a good movie, but as I said don't expect the epics of Rocky or Cindarella Man.
7/10

I saw this on last thurs, I think it's a film that is similar to most other films of it's kind, I personally didn't find it amazing or anything. I much prefered The Blind Side to this film!

I'm seeing this on thursday and am really looking forward to it, especially since seeing Bale and Melissa Leo bagged the supporting actor and actress Golden Globes.
