Heritage Open Day in Stockport 8th/9th September - visit staircase house which is the oldest house in Stockport or visit the Air Raid Shelters (I think that I will go on Sunday and combine it with a trip to the Hat museum which is also free - they are all within 10 minutes walk of each other)
http://www.stockport.gov.uk/newsroom/hods2012
Edit: The Air raid shelters is only on Saturday so sadly I can't go :tears: Thanks to Betty Botter for pointing this out to me (I got a bit carried away thinking of another day out and didn't read it properly).

Free wristbands for City Showcase: London, the live music festival in Soho and Central London- 9th-13th October.

To get free entry, you must register online for wristbands by 28th September otherwise entry to each event will be £5 on the door.

Info taken from the cityshowcase site...
City Showcase: London, the live music festival dedicated to new music, will take place in Soho and Central London between 9th-13th October.

Since 2003, the growing list of alumni who have performed their first live gigs on a City Showcase stage include Amy Winehouse, Keane, Gabriella Cilmi, Razorlight, Laura Marling, Newton Faulkner, Hot Chip and Newton Faulkner, and to mark its 10th anniversary year in style, the event will be hosting its biggest ever line-up of breaking acts and venues.

Following the highly successful Soho Flea Market event on Dean Street in May, City Showcase has secured an outdoor stage on Heddon Street, where Tibits will also host the City Showcase hub comprising a media and bloggers’ lounge, photography exhibition, film screenings and more. Alongside traditional live venues such as the 100 Club, The Borderline, Bar Rumba, the Phoenix, the Pizza Express Jazz Club and the Purple Turtle, retail outlets such as the Apple Store, Ugg, Coast, Ted Baker, Brooks Brothers, Kirk Originals and 7 For All Mankind on Regent Street will be involved.

Artists confirmed for City Showcase: London include Ash Graham (winner of City Showcase: New Zealand 2012), Mark Morriss (of The Bluetones), Daniela Brooker, Josephine, Yellowwire, Magazine Gap, Big Cloud Kid, Fractures, Pink Cigar, Rev78, Floodliners, Shanel Brown, Robert Vincent. Additionally City Showcase will be introducing Lillian Todd Jones, and many more.

The opening party for City Showcase will be held at The Bedford in Soho on Tuesday 9th October. The closing party will be a 14 years + event at the Amersham Arms in Lewisham.

City Showcase covers all genres and supports creatives across all disciplines and this year the festival will feature an electronic music programme at venues such as 93 Feet East and Café 1001. Furthermore there will be screenings of the work of new film-makers, and new photographic exhibitions and displays of new digital technologies across the West End including at Inamo. City Showcase London 2012 will be a vibrant digital festival matching the real world creative experience set to take over London’s iconic Soho.

For 2012, City Showcase has extended its “Finding The Future” conference and networking schedule at Gibson Guitar Studios and at The Apple Store, Regent Street. The 4-day panel programme includes a conference on 12th October aimed at students. Participants include Alan Pell (A&R), Barrie Cadogan (Little Barrie), Chris Cooke (Unlimited Media), Chris Dyer (Zimbalem), Kerry Harvey-Piper (Red-Grape), Martin Heath (Lizard King), Rob Hallett (AEG),

Sean Devine (ASCAP), Sophie Garner (vocal coach), Stan Mcleod (Bandwagon), Tony Moore, Tom Pakinkis (Music Week), Tony Wadsworth (BPI Chairman).

To mark the 10th anniversary, City Showcase is offering free entry to those who register online for wristbands by 28th September otherwise entry to each event will be £5 on the door.

City Showcase Director Nanette Rigg says: “We are now gearing up for our tenth anniversary celebrations with more businesses, brands and venues taking part. We are celebrating the last 10 years and looking forward to the next 10 years showcasing more creative disciplines and creating an online festival to equal the real world experience creating even wider audiences for new talent”.

This year’s ‘Creative’, Caffy St Luce of Rocklands says: “I am really excited to be involved in City Showcase: Spotlight London as the event has been instrumental in instigating ideas and genuinely raising artist profiles. City Showcase is an established success, but still manages to be inclusive and approachable for the maverick and alternative.”
